Context last updated 14 Oct 2026, 02:17 · Europe/Bucharest

Sánchez Quílez has won three matches in three days in Maia, while Nedic is fresher and ranked 131 places higher but carries a level 7-7 clay record.

Nedic is the marginally more likely winner; at 1.65, though, that is not a price worth taking. No reviewed market offers a worthwhile bet.

Context

Indoor clay removes wind and weather and lengthens baseline exchanges, which fits Nedic's clay-only tracked record more than Sánchez Quílez's listed hard-court preference. Both men have already won matches on these courts this week, so the surface is familiar rather than a fresh adjustment, and the difference is stylistic rather than decisive. The winner reaches the quarterfinals of a 100-level event, where ranking points and prize money sit.
- The 2026 Maia Challenger is the ninth edition, held from 12 to 18 October 2026 as an ATP Challenger 100 event.
- Matches are played on indoor clay.
- Sánchez Quílez and Nedic are scheduled to meet in the second round on Centre Court.

Three completed matches in three days, two of them three-setters, is the asymmetric workload in this fixture: Nedic arrived after a six-day gap. On indoor clay, where points run longer, accumulated mileage can weigh on a player late in a match. Sánchez Quílez limited the cost with a straight-sets first-round win, so the question is durability across the week rather than recovery from one long outing.
- Sánchez Quílez won qualifying matches on 11 and, both in three sets.
- He beat fifth seed Max Alcalá Gurri in the first round .
- Nedic had not played since his Braga first-round loss before opening in Maia .

Beating a top-140 seed who arrived off a Challenger title is a stronger form line than Sánchez Quílez's No. 375 ranking implies, and he did it in straight sets on clay. It does not by itself create an advantage over Nedic, who is ranked No. 244 and plays mainly on clay, because the wins came against different opponents. The result explains why Sánchez Quílez enters this round with a quality win already behind him.
- Sánchez Quílez beat Alcalá Gurri 6-3 6-4 in the Maia first round.
- Alcalá Gurri was seeded fifth and ranked No. 138 against Sánchez Quílez's No. 375.
- Alcalá Gurri had won the Plovdiv Challenger shortly before the Portuguese swing.

Nine of Nedic's fourteen completed clay matches since 7 July ended in straight sets, which is why a two-set finish is his most common recent result. Six of those fourteen still featured a tiebreak, so the shorter matches have often stayed close. His clay record in the sample is level at 7-7, so the pattern cuts both ways.
- Fourteen completed clay matches tracked from 7 July to 13 October 2026, record 7-7.
- Scorelines: five 2-0 wins, four 0-2 losses, two 2-1 wins and three 1-2 losses.
- Six of the fourteen matches included a tiebreak; matches averaged 22.0 games.
