Ugo Blanchet #305France22 – 0Tom Paris #676France0

Paris beat a player ranked more than 350 places above him to take his main-draw place, the strongest win in his recent record. He needed three sets against Yanis Ghazouani Durand before the straight-set win over Poullain, so he enters the first round having spent five sets on court, one more than his opponent. The limitation is that a single qualifying win does not reverse a ranking outside the top 650, and his recorded 2026 season has otherwise been played mostly on lower-level indoor hard events.

Blanchet's qualifying wins at Roanne came against Nicolas Tepmahc (No. 635) and Daniel De Jonge (No. 585), so the step up in class is the open question here. Chidekh is the highest-ranked opponent in the six dated matches supplied for Blanchet and took the deciding set 6-2. Blanchet did win a set and 12 games in that match, so the defeat was competitive rather than one-sided.

Blanchet, 27, reaches the main draw after only four sets of qualifying, the most efficient route available. A straight-set qualifier carries no accumulated fatigue and gets two competitive looks at the indoor hard courts before the first round, which matters in a compact 32-player draw. The limitation is the opposition: Tepmahc and De Jonge sit outside the top 500, so the wins confirm sharpness against lower-ranked players rather than proven form against a top-350 opponent.

Indoor hard is the surface both players have already used through qualifying, and Paris has played most of his recorded 2026 matches in those conditions. Blanchet's preferred surface is hard, so the setting requires no surface adjustment from either player. The window is compact, with 32 players across eight days from 11 October, meaning the winner returns quickly in the same hall. This frames how the qualifying form should be read rather than separating the two players.
