Context last updated 11 Oct 2026, 23:26 · Europe/Bucharest

Fritz is the favourite, but Tsitsipas leads their head-to-head 4-2 and has not dropped a set in Shanghai.

The 1.6 on a Fritz win and 1.6 on him taking the first set ask more than his form supports. Tsitsipas +3.5 games at 1.44 is the one quoted price with an edge; under 2.5 sets at 1.5 looks about right.

Context

Tsitsipas entered Shanghai without a seeding and therefore had to play an extra round, so two straight-set wins leave him with more match time than Fritz but no lost sets. Beating world No. 21 Darderi gives the Shanghai run more weight than his No. 43 ranking suggests, and his only recent defeat came against Valentin Vacherot in Tokyo on 2 October. The limit is that neither Coppejans nor Darderi applies the serve-first pressure Fritz does, so this route has not been tested against the pattern he will face.
- Two straight-set wins in Shanghai, in the rounds of 128 and 64
- Beat Kimmer Coppejans 6-3 7-5
- Beat world No. 21 Luciano Darderi 6-3 6-4
- His only defeat in the previous two weeks was to Valentin Vacherot in Tokyo on 2 October

Fritz's No. 12 ranking and serve remain the basis of his standing, but three straight defeats going into Shanghai showed a player who had not been converting that serve into wins, including a three-set loss to Jaume Munar in Tokyo. The 7-5 6-4 win over Matteo Arnaldi ended the slide and gave him a first match on these courts. Arnaldi is ranked No. 38 and had played the previous day, so the win is a modest test relative to this one.
- Three defeats before Shanghai, including a three-set loss to Jaume Munar in Tokyo
- Beat Matteo Arnaldi 7-5 6-4 in the round of 64
- Seeded, so he had a first-round bye

This is the reference point for how the matchup has played on a hard court, and Fritz's four-set win shows he can take control of a long match against Tsitsipas' rhythm. The 182-minute length also shows the contest tends to go deep when both are serving well, which makes the closing stages of sets here relevant. The gap since January 2024 and Tsitsipas' very different ranking now limit how much weight the result carries.
- Fritz won 7-6 5-7 6-3 6-3 at the Australian Open on 21 January 2024
- The match lasted 182 minutes

The series record favours Tsitsipas, and the January 2026 win came in straight sets. Fritz answered with wins on 14 April 2023 and at the 2024 Australian Open, their only Grand Slam hard-court meeting, which went four sets. Three of the six meetings have finished in straight sets, so the pattern is mixed rather than one-sided.
- Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head 4-2 across six completed meetings
- Tsitsipas won the most recent meeting 6-4 7-5 on 7 January 2026
- Fritz's wins came on 14 April 2023 (6-2 6-4) and 21 January 2024
