Context last updated 11 Oct 2026, 08:20 · Europe/Bucharest

Samsun's WTA 125 final asks whether home player Ayla Aksu can win a set, never mind the match, against a Stefanini who has dropped none all week and has beaten her twice before.

Stefanini is the likely winner, but 1.25 demands more than the week justifies. The worthwhile prices point the other way: Aksu +4.5 games at 2.00, Aksu for the first set at 3.20, Aksu to win at 4.00.

Context

Aksu is ranked No. 210, so beating the seventh seed is the strongest win of her week and shows she can handle seeded opposition on the Samsun hard courts. The earlier comeback against Crawley means she has had to solve two different problems to reach this final. It matters because her last step is against a higher-ranked opponent who has not lost a set here. The home setting is a variable she did not have in either previous meeting with Stefanini, but it does not by itself change the level she must produce.
- Aksu beat seventh seed Himeno Sakatsume 7-5 6-3 in the Samsun semifinal .
- Aksu came from a set down to beat Fiona Crawley 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the quarter-final on 9 October 2026.

Blinkova was the second seed and the highest-ranked opponent left in the draw, so a straight-sets win over her is the strongest result on Stefanini's route to the final. It matters because it shows she can handle a top-100 hitter rather than only lower-ranked opposition, and it extends a run in which she has not dropped a set. Blinkova's level this season sits below her own career peak, so the margin is not a direct measure of Stefanini's level against this field. What carries into the final is a clean, short route.
- Stefanini beat second seed Anna Blinkova 6-2 6-3 in the Samsun semifinal .
- Stefanini entered the semifinal as an eighth seed and had won her previous three Samsun matches in straight sets.

The set count is the clearest physical difference between the two finalists: Stefanini has spent close to the minimum time on court, while Aksu has played two extra sets and two long opening sets during the week. If the final runs long, the fresher player is better placed to sustain her level. The gap is real but should not be overstated, because Aksu's long matches came earlier in the week and she closed her semi-final in straight sets, so the accumulated deficit by Sunday is modest rather than decisive.
- Stefanini won her four Samsun matches in straight sets.
- Aksu's round of 16 and quarter-final matches both went to three sets.
ConfirmedSources checked 11 Oct 2026, 08:18 · Europe/BucharestTennis Majorswww.tennismajors.com · 10 Oct 2026
The meetings came on different surfaces, so Aksu has no surface-specific read on Stefanini, and the more recent one was a straight-sets loss in Grand Slam qualifying. The pattern matters because Stefanini has kept Aksu from winning a set in either match. Two meetings is a small sample and neither was at WTA 125 level, so the record supports Stefanini without settling what happens on these courts. The home crowd for Aksu is a new variable with no precedent in the rivalry.
- Stefanini beat Aksu 6-2 6-3 in US Open qualifying in August 2026.
- Stefanini also won the pair's 2023 clay-court meeting.
