Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 4 Oct 2026, 16:55 · Europe/Bucharest

Muller's serve is the best single shot in this Shanghai qualifying match and he is the likelier winner, but not by the margin the 1.44 match price assumes, especially with two straight-set defeats behind him.

Noguchi at 2.5 to take the first set and 2.5 to take the second are the two quotes with something behind them; Muller to win the match and Under 2.5 sets at 1.45 ask too much.

Context

Muller's recent hard-court results have been short and clearly decided rather than attritional.
Ten of those 11 completed matches were settled in straight sets, so his results tend to land one way or the other without long, tight contests. The split of six wins and five defeats means the straight-set pattern gives no firm direction, only a sense of how the matches end. With only two of the 11 featuring a tiebreak, the decisive swings come inside ordinary games rather than shootouts.
- 11 hard-court matches, 19 Aug–30 Sep 2026
- Scorelines: five 2-0 wins, five 0-2 losses, one 2-1 win
- Average 2.09 sets per match; only two of the 11 matches featured a tiebreak
Muller's first delivery has been the most productive single shot either player has shown in this window.
That 73.5% first-serve points won is the strongest such figure in this matchup, and his 64 aces across the 15 matches are more than three times the 20 Rio Noguchi has managed in the same number of tracked matches. Free points on serve shorten his service games and put pressure on the returner. The trade-off is a 63.1% first-serve rate and 2.7 double faults per match, so the advantage depends on the delivery landing.
- 15 tracked matches through 30 Sep 2026
- First-serve points won: 472 of 642 (73.5%)
- 64 aces and 40 double faults across those 15 matches
- First serves in: 642 of 1018 (63.1%)
Noguchi's recent hard-court sets have been competitive and his matches have usually stretched past two sets.
Five of the 15 matches reached a third set — four won 2-1 and one lost 1-2 — so his recent results point to longer contests than Muller's. His first-set record of 6-9 is the weaker half of his match, while he is 7-8 in second sets. Only four of the 15 featured a tiebreak, so those sets tend to be settled inside normal games rather than in a shootout.
- 15 hard-court matches, 15 Jul–23 Sep 2026
- Average 21.8 total games and 2.33 sets per match
- Scorelines: four 2-1 wins, four 2-0 wins, six 0-2 losses, one 1-2 loss
- Set 1 record 6-9; set 2 record 7-8
