Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 4 Oct 2026, 22:16 · Europe/Bucharest

A WTA 125 main-draw place is on the line in Samsun.

Noma Noha Akugue, ranked 130, is the stronger side against No. 278 Elena Micic, but had lost her previous two hard-court matches before winning her opener here. Noha Akugue to win the match at 1.44 asks more than that record justifies. The worthwhile prices are her to take the first set at 1.50 and the match to finish in straight sets at 1.45.

Context

The winner of the October 5 Samsun Open qualifying final takes a place in the main draw of the WTA 125 event in Samsun, Turkey, so the two players are competing for entry to the tournament rather than for a main-draw round. Noha Akugue, ranked No. 130, sits 148 places above Micic, No. 278, yet neither has dropped a set in qualifying. They have never met, so the fixture rests on current form and surface rather than any head-to-head pattern. The only completed qualifying form is two straight-sets wins, neither against an opponent ranked inside the top 400.
- Noma Noha Akugue beat Ilay Yoruk 6-1 6-4 in the Samsun Open qualifying first round .
- Elena Micic beat Maria Golovina 6-4 6-4 in the same round on the same day.
- The October 5, 2026 Samsun Open qualifying final is the first match between the two players.
- Noha Akugue is ranked No. 130 and Micic No. 278.

Noha Akugue is the higher-ranked player here at No. 130, but she reaches this qualifying final after consecutive hard-court defeats, including a straight-sets loss to No. 234 Fiona Crawley in which she won only four games. Her Samsun opener, a 6-1 6-4 win over Ilay Yoruk, is her only victory in her last three matches. That frames the fixture as a test of whether she can convert her ranking edge against a No. 278 opponent. The counterpoint is that both of those recent opponents rank well below the standard of this qualifying final.
- Lost 3-6 1-6 to Fiona Crawley on September 28, 2026.
- Lost in three sets to Malaika Rapolu on September 17, 2026.
- Beat Ilay Yoruk 6-1 6-4 in the Samsun Open qualifying first round .

Micic's second serve has been the most exposed part of her game in this stretch.
Five and a half double faults a match is a steady supply of free points, and Noha Akugue's return numbers give her another route into rallies when the first serve does land. It has not stopped Micic winning matches — she took her Samsun opener 6-4 6-4 without dropping a set — so the serve trouble raises her risk rather than settling the outcome.
- 83 double faults across 15 hard-court matches, an average of 5.5 per match, in the sample ending October 4, 2026.
- 28 aces over the same 15 matches, an average of 1.9 per match.
Noha Akugue's habit of a fast start shapes how this qualifying final is likely to begin.
If the pattern holds, Micic will be playing catch-up from the first games, a different task from the one she handled in her own qualifying opener. The caveat is the sample: seven matches, no first-set tiebreaks in it, and Noha Akugue has still let three of those matches run to a deciding set.
- First-set record of 6-1 across seven hard-court matches, August 3 to October 4, 2026.
- Average of 5.6 games won and 2.9 games lost in the opening set, with no tiebreaks played in it.
