Context last updated 2 Oct 2026, 22:34 · Europe/Bucharest

An all-Spanish semifinal in Porto pits the in-form Montes-De La Torre — nine wins from 13 completed hard-court matches since 27 August, the opening set taken in nine of them — against a Jorda Sanchis who has won his last two completed matches in straight sets.

Montes-De La Torre is the likelier winner, but 1.33 for him to win the match asks too much. Only one quoted price holds up: Jorda Sanchis at 2.6 to win the opening set.

Context

Both quarter-finals were completed in straight sets, so neither player reaches this semi carrying the cost of a long three-set match. Winning here guarantees a Spanish finalist at the Eupago Porto Open, which gives two compatriots more than a routine Challenger semi to play for. The shared nationality and the guaranteed finalist do not by themselves separate the two players; the match still turns on which man's serve and return hold up across a best-of-three.
- Jorda Sanchis beat Daniel Rincón 6-3 6-4 in the quarter-final
- Montes-De La Torre beat Hugo Grenier 6-2 7-6(3) in the quarter-final
- The two Spaniards meet in the semifinal, guaranteeing a Spanish finalist

Jorda Sanchis, 32, arrives at a third Challenger semi of 2026 with titles already won this season at Istanbul and Lyon. That gives this semifinal the weight of a possible third title campaign rather than a one-off run, and it sits against a hard-court record this season that has otherwise been uneven, including losses to lower-ranked opponents such as Luca Potenza and Alan Magadan. The two titles establish him as the more decorated of the pair at this level, though a title count alone does not settle which man plays better on the day.
- Jorda Sanchis won 2026 Challenger titles at Istanbul and Lyon
- He reached his third Challenger semifinal of the season in Porto
- He beat Daniel Rincón 6-3 6-4 to reach the semifinal

Montes-De La Torre, 23, is into a fourth Challenger semifinal of 2026 and has won eleven of his last fifteen matches, almost all on hard courts. The repeated deep runs mark him as the more in-form player of the two on this surface even though he is the lower-ranked man at No. 228. That form was built largely against opponents outside the top 250, so it does not by itself guarantee it carries into a semifinal against a compatriot with two Challenger titles this season.
- Montes-De La Torre reached a fourth Challenger semifinal of 2026 in Porto
- He has won eleven of his last fifteen matches, almost all on hard courts

Montes-De La Torre's run has removed second seed Jacob Fearnley, who retired at 7-6(4) 3-0 after the Spaniard won the opening set on a tie-break. He then beat Hugo Grenier 6-2 7-6(3), so the quarter-final advance did not depend on the retirement alone. With that half's highest seed gone, his path is less obstructed than it was at the start of the week, and the Grenier result is the clearest evidence that his hard-court form is holding at Challenger level.
- Montes-De La Torre led 7-6(4) 3-0 when second seed Jacob Fearnley retired
- He beat Hugo Grenier 6-2 7-6(3) in the quarter-final
- Fearnley came into the event ranked No. 94
