Struff beat Medvedev in straight sets at Wimbledon in July, but they meet on hard courts in Beijing, where Medvedev has won all three of their meetings and arrives on a five-match run after the Hangzhou title.

Medvedev is the likely winner, probably in straight sets. At 5.5, Struff to win the match is the one reviewed price that offers anything; the Medvedev prices do not.

Context

Struff's 7-6(4) 7-6(5) 7-5 win on 3 July 2026 means the two players have recent, direct experience of each other's game rather than only an old record. Two tie-break sets and a 7-5 third show the result turned on a handful of points, which gives the German a concrete template for handling Medvedev's serve and baseline patterns. The clear limitation is surface: that match was on grass, where Struff's flat first-strike tennis is most effective, while this fixture is on the outdoor hard court that has long rewarded Medvedev's returning depth. The result raises the difficulty of the matchup without establishing a hard-court advantage for either player.
- Struff defeated Medvedev 7-6(4) 7-6(5) 7-5 on grass in July 2026.
- The win came in straight sets, with two of the three sets decided by tie-breaks.

The Hangzhou final on 29 September gave Medvedev his first title at that event, and he carried the run straight into Beijing four days later without dropping a set in his opener. A five-match sequence that includes a straight-sets win over top-25 opposition in Rublev is the strongest recent form either player brings into this round and supports his position as the higher-ranked player in the pairing. The counterweight is workload: Beijing is his second event in eight days and he plays the day after his opener, while Struff had four days between his matches. The run also says little about how he handles a serve as heavy as Struff's, which is the specific test this round poses.
- Medvedev won the Hangzhou Open final 7-5 6-4 against Andrey Rublev on 29 September 2026, his first title at that event.
- He beat Pablo Carreno Busta 6-4 6-2 in the Beijing first round .
- The Beijing win was his fifth consecutive victory, and he struck 26 winners in the match.

Medvedev's hard-court work in this window has been front-loaded, with the opening set the part of the match he has controlled most often.
Those nine hard-court matches produced an 11.11-game average in the first set, with two tie-breaks, and five of the nine finished 2-0 in Medvedev's favour. The second sets were closer, splitting 5-4, which is why the first set is the cleaner part of his record and why a Struff set is more likely later than early. The window is nine matches with no retirements excluded, so it describes recent form rather than a season-long rate.
- Nine hard-court best-of-three matches tracked from 5 August to 2 October 2026: first sets 7-2, second sets 5-4.
- First sets averaged 11.11 total games with two tie-breaks; total games averaged 23.67 per match.
- Scorelines across the nine matches: five 2-0 wins, one 2-1 win, two 0-2 losses, one 1-2 loss.
The 6-1 6-4 win took roughly an hour and cost Struff only five games, the quickest way to absorb a layoff that had run since his five-set US Open exit on 3 September. A short, low-cost match limits the chance that rust or lingering fatigue distorts his level, which matters against a returner of Medvedev's depth. The limitation is the opposition: one comfortable win over a lower-ranked player does not show how Struff copes when his serve is under sustained pressure. It restores match rhythm without demonstrating the part of his game this round will test.
- Struff defeated Thiago Agustin Tirante 6-1 6-4 to reach the Beijing round of 16.
- Struff's previous singles match was a five-set loss to Francisco Cerundolo on 3 September 2026.
- The win over Tirante took about an hour and included 21 winners from Struff.
