Context last updated 2 Oct 2026, 03:41 · Europe/Bucharest

Zverev, the No. 2 seed, meets a home wild card ranked 250th in the Beijing second round and should win, most likely in straight sets; Shang's three-set win over No.

51 Baez is the reason to pause. Zverev's 1.07 offers almost nothing. Among the prices with room are Over 22.5 games at 2.6, Shang +2.5 games at 4.75 and Shang to win the second set at 5.25.

Context

Zverev's 2026 season produced his first two Grand Slam titles, at Roland Garros and the US Open, plus a Wimbledon final and a 25-2 record at the majors. He is the first German man to win the US Open since Boris Becker in 1989, and only he, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have won majors since the start of 2024. The record sets the baseline for this fixture: he is the highest-ranked player in Beijing against a wild card outside the top 200. The level of opposition behind those titles is the counterpoint, since he met neither Sinner nor Alcaraz during either title run and holds just two top-10 wins in 2026.
- Zverev won Roland Garros and the US Open in 2026, his first two Grand Slam titles.
- He also reached the Wimbledon final in 2026.
- He is the first German man to win the US Open since Boris Becker in 1989.
- Only Zverev, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have won Grand Slam titles since the start of 2024.

Zverev arrives at No. 2 in the ATP ranking and at the top of the 2026 race, with the year-end No. 1 within reach during the closing stretch of the season. Beijing is a points event in that pursuit rather than a warm-up, so an early exit to a wild card would carry direct ranking cost. The stake is real but provisional, since it depends on results across the rest of the Asian swing and the indoor season rather than on this single match.
- Zverev is ranked No. 2 in the world and leads the 2026 race.
- He is the only player to have won two Grand Slam titles in 2026.
- Commentary around his Beijing campaign frames the year-end No. 1 as within reach.

Shang, a wild card ranked No. 250, came from a set down to beat the 51st-ranked Sebastian Baez 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in front of a home crowd. The win is a better guide to his level than his ranking and gives him a second home match against a far higher-ranked opponent. He had lost his previous three tour matches before Beijing, so the result broke a run of early exits rather than confirming that he has been playing at this level consistently.
- Shang beat Sebastian Baez 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 in the Beijing first round .
- Shang entered on a wild card ranked No. 250; Baez is ranked No. 51.
- The match was played in front of a home crowd.

Zverev beat Cameron Norrie 7-6(1), 6-4 and has now won all nine of their meetings, moving into the second round without dropping a set as the top seed. The first set reached a tiebreak before Zverev pulled clear, so the opener was not as one-sided as the final margin suggests. That scoreline is the only competitive evidence from this event on how his game is travelling on this court.
- Zverev beat Cameron Norrie 7-6(1), 6-4 in the Beijing first round .
- The result extended Zverev's head-to-head record against Norrie to 9-0.
- Zverev entered the tournament as top seed and world No. 2.
