Context last updated 1 Oct 2026, 15:51 · Europe/Bucharest

Shubladze, the sixth seed and No. 163, has not dropped a set at Jingshan; home wildcard Wei, No. 421, has scraped through a three-setter and a retirement.

Shubladze is the likely winner, but 1.25 on her is far too demanding. The prices with something behind them all sit with Wei — a 4.5-game start at 2.00, the first set at 3.20, the second set at 3.20, the match at 4.00 — plus over 21.5 games at 2.20.

Context

Shubladze came into Jingshan as the sixth seed and has won both matches here without dropping a set. Four of the top seven seeds have already gone: Ferro retired in the round of 16 against Wei, Grant lost her opening match, and Costoulas and Ibragimova fell in the second round. That leaves Shubladze as one of the highest seeds still standing in a quarterfinal field that no longer resembles its entry list. Seeding reflects entry-list position rather than current-week form, so it frames the expectation around this fixture more than it predicts the result.
- Shubladze listed as the sixth seed in the Jingshan singles main draw
- Ferro retired in the round of 16, Grant lost her opening match, and Costoulas and Ibragimova went out in the second round

Wei, a home wildcard at No. 421, spent three sets getting out of the first round and then only eight games on court in the round of 16, where second seed Fiona Ferro retired at 6-1, 2-0. The win over a top-110 opponent counts on her record but was not a completed match, so it says less about her level than a two-set win of the same scoreline would. Her one long match of the week is the better guide to whether she can hold up against a seeded opponent over three sets. Shubladze, by contrast, has finished both of her matches inside two sets.
- Wei won her first round 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6)
- Ferro retired with Wei ahead 6-1, 2-0 in the round of 16
- Wei is an unseeded wildcard ranked No. 421

Shubladze carries a 47-15 record and five ITF titles into this quarterfinal, the latest of them at the W50 in Guiyang in September. That volume of hard-court match wins is the most direct explanation for a ranking that has moved to No. 163 while Wei sits at No. 421. She also handled Chinese opposition in Guiyang, which is a relevant reference point against a home wildcard. ITF titles sit a level below a WTA 125 quarterfinal, so the record describes her base level rather than guaranteeing a repeat here.
- 2026 record listed as 47-15 with five titles, including W50 Guiyang and W35 Wuning
- Won the Guiyang title in September, beating Ren Yufei 6-2, 6-3 along the way

Wei's hard-court window is a long-match sample: she has rarely won or lost quickly.
If this quarterfinal follows her recent pattern it will take a while, so a quick straight-set Shubladze win is not the automatic outcome.
- 13 hard-court matches tracked from 21 August to 28 September 2026, averaging 2.46 sets and 24.5 games per match.
- Six of those 13 matches went to a deciding set: four 2-1 wins and two 1-2 losses.
- Six of the 13 contained at least one tiebreak.
