Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 19:17 · Europe/Bucharest

Both players reached a final in September — Shubladze won the W50 title in Guiyang, Lu lost the W35 final in Kyoto — yet the entry list separates them by 199 places.

Shubladze is the likelier winner, but 1.2 on her is a price to leave alone. The quotes that hold up are on Lu: 4.5 to win the match, 3.5 to take the first set, 3.5 the second.

Context

The Guiyang title is the strongest result in Shubladze's recent block and it came on the same hard courts and in the same country as this event, 17 days before the match. What followed is uneven: she lost early at W35 level and at another event in China during the next fortnight, and she has not won consecutive matches since Guiyang. That matters here because it makes her the higher-ranked and seeded player without a settled run behind her, while her opponent arrives from a final of her own. The seeding is therefore a better guide to the entry list than to current form.
- Shubladze won the Guiyang W50 title in September 2026
- She beat Ren YuFei in the Guiyang final
- Ren YuFei reached the final, beating Zhuoxuan Bai 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-final
- Shubladze was the third seed in Guiyang, ranked near No. 190

Kyoto is the nearest form line to this match: Lu won four straight matches on hard courts there, including a semi-final against Ena Shibahara, whose career-high ranking is No. 116, before losing a final that went to a third-set tiebreak. The run ended, making it the most recent completed tournament week behind her, and it followed earlier September losses to opponents ranked outside the top 450. The level is the limitation: W35 events sit well below this 125-level field, and Hiromi Abe, who won the Kyoto title, is ranked No. 277.
- Lu was the fourth seed at the W35 event in Kyoto
- She reached the Kyoto final
- Hiromi Abe won the final 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5)
- Lu beat Ena Shibahara 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-final

The entry list separates them clearly: a seed and No. 163 against an unseeded No. 362, which is the framing the match will be judged against. Seeding at a 32-player 125-level event follows the entry list rather than this week's results, so it reflects Shubladze's standing over the past year. Lu has beaten higher-ranked opponents this month, including Hayu Kinoshita here, while also losing to players ranked below her, so the 199-place gap is a starting point rather than a settled guide to the match.
- Shubladze is listed as the sixth seed at the Jingshan Tennis Open
- Shubladze is ranked No. 163 and Lu No. 362
- The two are drawn together in the round of 16

Lu's first delivery is the part of her game that has held up against higher-ranked opponents.
In a match where the entry list separates the players by 199 places, Lu's serve is the clearest reason the gap may not show on court. She wins more than two-thirds of the points behind her first serve across a 15-match sample. The same numbers carry the risk: she lands 61.6% of first serves and averages 4.7 double faults, so a poor serving day hands Shubladze the initiative.
- Past 15 matches: 44 aces (2.9 per match) with 451 of 662 first-serve points won (68.1%)
- First serves in: 662 of 1074 (61.6%); 70 double faults (4.7 per match)
