Pre-match view

Context last updated 30 Sep 2026, 00:46 · Europe/Bucharest

Heide is the top seed at No. 122, but Meligeni has won nine of his last ten on clay, so this all-Brazilian second round is closer than the rankings suggest.

Heide is the likelier winner, most likely in straight sets. Heide at 1.5 asks more than his form justifies; Meligeni at 2.4 is the one quoted price that offers something.

Context

Heide's level entering this match is anchored to that Davis Cup result rather than to his ranking alone, because the win came on indoor hard, the surface on which he had lost all three of his 2026 matches. It shows he can produce against far higher-ranked opposition than he meets in Curitiba. The limitation is that he felt a physical twinge during the second set of that match but finished the win, so this reads as a form marker rather than a clean physical picture.
- Heide beat Stan Wawrinka 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 in 2h38 in Brazil's Davis Cup tie
- Heide described the win as the biggest of his career
- Brazil completed a 3-0 win over Switzerland to secure a place in the 2027 Davis Cup Qualifiers
- He felt a physical twinge during the second set but completed the match

Seeding and the ranking target shape how this fixture is read: Heide is the highest-rated player in the field, and a 75-point title is the kind of return that would move him toward a first top-100 place, giving his results here more swing than a routine Challenger week. It also explains why the draw position sits with him. The counterpoint is that a ranking goal is a stake rather than a demonstrated playing advantage, and it does not by itself settle a match against a familiar countryman.
- Heide became the Curitiba No. 1 seed after Francisco Comesana withdrew before the event
- Heide said the closing tournaments are important for his ranking goals
- He is targeting a first top-100 place across a run of eight to nine tournaments
- He entered the event at ATP No. 122

Meligeni's ranking undersells his likely level in this specific match, because as recently as 2025 he was inside the top 120 and his match record is overwhelmingly on clay, the surface used in Curitiba. The protected-ranking entry indicates that his fall reflects interrupted time rather than a settled change in standard. The limitation is that a protected ranking is an entry mechanism rather than evidence of current form, and his recent results show wins over lower-ranked opponents alongside losses to players nearer the top 130.
- Meligeni reached a career-high No. 117 in April 2025
- He entered Curitiba at No. 463
- He was listed with a protected ranking in the main-draw entry list
- He beat Carlos Maria Zarate 6-4, 6-2 in the first round

The compressed schedule matters because both players were pushed back a day before completing their first rounds, and the second round was then moved into a Wednesday session already carrying outstanding first-round matches. That leaves little room for a long match to be finished in normal order and raises the chance of further schedule disruption. It is a shared condition rather than an advantage for either player, since both were re-scheduled in the same way.
- Rain postponed the Monday debuts of Heide and Meligeni to Tuesday
- Further rain cancelled the Tuesday session with several first rounds still to be completed
- The Heide-Meligeni second round was moved to Wednesday
