Context last updated 28 Sep 2026, 19:46 · Europe/Bucharest

Donald has two wins on these Bari courts this week; Wallin has not played since 20 September and arrives from indoor hard.

Donald's clay record (9-6, 54% of games) edges Wallin's (8-4, 53.1%), though Wallin serves better and Donald's 5.5 double faults a match hand back chances. Donald to win is the likelier result, and 2.10 is the one quoted price worth taking; Wallin at 1.73 asks too much.

Context

Donald's two wins give him competitive rhythm on the Bari courts and a head start in acclimatisation that Wallin, whose last match came on 20 September, does not have. He also carries the opposing cost of that route: four sets across consecutive days, the second decided in a tie-break, and a short turnaround into a first-round match starting at 10:00. Wallin therefore trades sharpness for freshness, which is the main practical difference between the two arrivals.
- Donald beat Carles Cordoba 6-1 6-1 in Bari qualifying on 27 September
- Donald beat Dimitris Sakellaridis 7-5 7-6(6) to come through qualifying
- Donald is listed among the qualifiers drawn against main-draw players in the Bari first round

Wallin's previous competitive appearance was a national-team tie on 19-20 September, where he recovered from 0-3 down in the deciding set to beat a higher-ranked opponent before losing his second singles match. That sequence shows he can close out tight three-setters, which matters at a level where his stored clay results include several narrow three-set wins and losses. The flip side is continuity: he has not competed since 20 September, so any sharpness from the tie has had nine days to cool.
- Wallin beat Yu Hsiou Hsu 3-6 6-2 7-5 in the Davis Cup tie against Chinese Taipei
- Wallin trailed 0-3 with a double break in the deciding set before winning it 7-5
- Wallin lost to Chun Hsin Tseng 6-1 6-4 in the same tie
ConfirmedSources checked 28 Sep 2026, 19:45 · Europe/Bucharest
Wallin's recent clay matches have been settled late or not at all: seven of the twelve needed a third set, and the average match ran past 110 minutes. His game is built on serving well enough to keep sets tight rather than winning them quickly. That points to a first round that could stretch into a decider, with the caveat that he has also lost twice in straight sets in the same sample.
- Wallin's 12 tracked clay matches run from 28 July to 8 September 2026
- Seven of the 12 reached a deciding set: five 2-1 wins and two 1-2 losses
- They averaged 24.5 games, 2.58 sets and 110.7 minutes per match
- Five matches finished in straight sets, including two 0-2 defeats
Donald's serve is the area opponents can pressure: 5.5 double faults a match with almost no aces hands Wallin's return extra looks. It also means Donald's service games can slip away quickly, which is one reason his clay matches have stayed competitive rather than one-sided. He still won 9 of 15 on the surface, so the flaw is a risk rather than a verdict on its own.
- Donald averaged 5.5 double faults per match across his last 15 completed matches, 83 in total
- He averaged 0.9 aces per match in the same sample, 13 aces in 15 matches
- All 15 of those matches are on clay; he won 9 and lost 6, taking 54% of games
