Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 03:07 · Europe/Bucharest

Okamura is ranked 303 to Wu's 813, yet she has lost 11 of her last 14 completed hard-court matches while Wu has won eight of her last 14.

Okamura is still the likelier winner of this Jingshan first round, but 1.15 on her offers nothing; Wu to win at 5.25 and a deciding third set at 3.00 both have room.

Context

That qualifying block is the strongest recent evidence of Okamura's level outside 125-level fields: three consecutive days of matches on an indoor hard court, two of them won in straight sets, ending in a WTA 500 main draw. Her competitive load before Jingshan was therefore those three matches followed by a seven-day break, with no match in between. The limitation is the quality of the wins, since neither qualifying opponent was ranked inside the top 250, so the run shows handling of lower-ranked opposition rather than a demonstrated step up in class.
- Won qualifying rounds on 19 and 20 September 2026 against Eva Marie Desvignes (7-6(2) 6-3) and Mei Yamaguchi (6-1 6-1)
- Reached the WTA 500 Singapore Tennis Open main draw as a qualifier
- Entered the Singapore main draw ranked outside the top 300

This is Okamura's most recent completed match, which makes it the freshest read on what Wu meets in the Jingshan draw: a top-35 seed needed two hours 19 minutes on a hard court to close out a straight-sets scoreline. The counterweight is that Fernandez, not Okamura, controlled the pressure points, saving 11 of the 12 break points against her and taking the ace count 4-0, so the long contest evidences durable resistance rather than a match Okamura was winning.
- Lost to sixth seed Leylah Fernandez 6-2 6-3 in the Singapore Tennis Open first round
- Match lasted two hours 19 minutes and the opening set included 23 deuce points
- Saved match points before a forehand error ended the match
- Fernandez saved 11 of the 12 break points she faced and out-aced Okamura 4-0

Okamura, 30 and ranked 303, is the higher-ranked player in this first-round match but brings a heavy recent losing run into it.
Those 14 matches are the clearest read on what she brings to Jingshan: she was beaten in straight sets in eight of them and won only two of 14 second sets, so keeping this opener close is the realistic target. Her three wins in the sample were two straight-setters and a three-setter, so the record is not entirely one-way, but eight 0-2 defeats is a substantial recent load.
- 14 completed hard-court matches between 20 May and 21 September 2026
- Scorelines: eight 0-2 defeats, three 1-2 defeats, two 2-0 wins, one 2-1 win
- Sets: 6-8 in first sets and 2-12 in second sets across those 14 matches
- Tiebreaks in two of the 14 matches
Wu arrives at Jingshan as the world No. 813 but with the stronger recent set-level record of the two players.
Winning second sets at that rate while starting slowly in first sets means her matches have tended to be settled in the middle of the contest rather than the opening games. One retirement is excluded from the 13-match sample, so this covers completed matches only, and her first-set numbers, 6-7 at 4.9 games won to 4.4, show she has stayed competitive early without closing sets out.
- 13 completed hard-court matches, 15 June to 22 September 2026, with one retirement excluded
- Second sets: nine wins, four losses, averaging 5.2 games won to 3.3 lost
- First sets: six wins, seven losses, averaging 4.9 games won to 4.4 lost
- Scorelines: six 2-0 wins, four 0-2 defeats, two 1-2 defeats, one 2-1 win
