A home player in form against a former world No. 7 in his final weeks.

Chidekh has won 11 of 14 completed hard-court matches since mid-August; Goffin has one win in seven on the surface and one match since June. Chidekh should win, most likely in straight sets. At 1.8, Chidekh to win 2-0 is the only quoted price offering anything; 1.29 for the match and 1.33 for the first set give no clear advantage, and 1.33 for the second set asks more of him than his record supports.

Context

Goffin, a former world No. 7 now ranked 390, is on a farewell schedule set out in early September, with Brussels on 17-25 October as the closing event; that makes this first round one of the last competitive matches of his career rather than a routine Challenger appearance, and it explains why a former top-10 player is in a French indoor draw. The ranking slide to 390 remains the current sporting reality and the send-off framing does not change it, so the form evidence still governs how this fixture should be read.
- The career-ending plan sets the European Open in Brussels, 17-25 October, as the final event, with a main-draw wildcard and a doubles pairing with Raphaël Collignon.
- A tribute is being prepared at that tournament for his retirement.
- Goffin is listed among the invited players for the Mouilleron-le-Captif event in Vendée.
- His stated playing schedule runs Saint-Tropez, then Mouilleron-le-Captif, then Brussels.

Goffin's first match after roughly three months without competition came in the Saint-Tropez first round and ended 6-3 6-4, so this first round is his second outing of the autumn and he has completed very few hard-court matches in 2026. That leaves limited current evidence about his level on an indoor hard court, while his opponent arrives with a run of wins on that same surface. The counterweight is that one comeback match after a long layoff is a thin basis for judging a player of his career standing, and no physical cause for the absence has been documented, so the picture is interrupted rhythm rather than a reported problem.
- Goffin's first match after a break of about three months was the Saint-Tropez first round .
- Mark Lajal won it 6-3 6-4 and moved into the second round.
- His first-round defeat was framed as another early exit in the weeks before his farewell.

Chidekh's first-set record is the sharpest single split in his recent hard-court run.
Twelve first sets won in 14 completed matches, with a 5.9-to-3.0 game average, is the kind of start that puts a first-round opponent under pressure early. The counterweight is Goffin's own opening sets: he has lost five of seven on hard courts in his sample, but two of those seven reached a tiebreak, so one tight set remains possible. Fourteen matches over roughly a month describes a run rather than fixing a level.
- Chidekh won 12 of 14 first sets across completed hard-court matches dated 18 August to 18 September 2026.
- His first sets in that window averaged 5.9 games won against 3.0 lost.
- Only one of those 14 first sets went to a tiebreak.
A title is the most concrete recent evidence of Chidekh's level, and it came on the French hard courts he has used throughout this stretch, which matters in a first round against a 35-year-old opponent who has played once since June. The limitation is the tier of opposition: an M25 title against lower-ranked players says little on its own about how he handles a former world No. 7, so the relevant point is that he arrives winning and match-sharp rather than any proven edge over this opponent.
- The Plaisir final finished 7-6(5) 6-1 in Chidekh's favour against Samir Banerjee.
- The title was listed as his eleventh ITF singles title.
- He was listed among the week's ITF tournament winners.
