Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 21 Sep 2026, 10:59 · Europe/Bucharest

Mark Lajal is 11-4 in his last 15 completed hard-court matches; David Goffin has one hard-court win in seven.

Lajal is the likely winner and the likelier man to take it in straight sets. The 1.25 for a Lajal win and the 1.73 for a 2-0 win offer nothing at those odds, and 1.30 and 1.33 for the first two sets ask more than those set records justify. No quoted price in this match is worth taking.

Context

Goffin's hard-court block is the oldest and smallest piece of evidence behind this match.
Inside those seven matches he lost four 0-2 and two 1-2 and won one 2-0, averaging 23.4 games a match and winning the opening set twice, so the block reads as a small, distant sample rather than a current form line.
- Hard-court set evidence: 7 completed best-of-three matches from 2025-10-19 to 2026-03-11, with 1 retirement excluded.
- Scorelines across those 7 matches: four 0-2 losses, two 1-2 losses, one 2-0 win.
- Average 23.4 total games per match; first sets won 2 of 7, second sets won 2 of 7.
Lajal's block is the freshest evidence in this matchup, covering a single month and ending nine days before the first round.
Four of his wins needed a deciding set and three matches went against him 0-2, so straight-set wins are his most common result but the block also shows he can be beaten without taking much from the match.
- 15 completed hard-court best-of-three matches from 2026-08-12 to 2026-09-13, no retirements recorded.
- Record 11-4; scorelines seven 2-0 wins, four 2-1 wins, one 1-2 loss, three 0-2 losses.
- Average 23.2 total games and 2.33 sets per match.
- Won 10 of 15 second sets, conceding an average of 3.9 games in them.
Lajal's serving and return numbers are the only full statistical set available for either player in this match.
He saved 62 of 93 break points and struck 102 aces over the same 15 matches, figures that point to a serve that keeps him out of trouble; the winners and unforced-error entries in that record cover only one match, so they carry no weight here.
- 15 matches tracked: 697 of 1,120 first serves in (62.2%).
- 522 of 697 first-serve points won (74.9%); 1,214 of 2,256 total points won (53.8%).
- 62 of 93 break points saved (66.7%); 102 aces across 15 matches (6.8 per match).
The Droguet result is Lajal's latest completed match and his closest dated data point before this tournament.
Both sets were settled by two games, so it is a narrow defeat rather than a collapse, but it does show his most recent outing ended without him taking a set, which is the main counterweight to his 11-4 hard-court block.
- 2026-09-13: Lajal lost 0-2 (13-10 in games; 4-6, 6-7) to Titouan Droguet, ranked 84, on hard.
- It is his most recent completed match in the record, nine days before this first round.
