Porto's first round puts second seed Jacob Fearnley, ranked No. 94, against a lucky loser ranked 370 who has been playing here this week.

Fearnley should win, probably in straight sets. The prices on him — 1.25 to win, 1.33 per set, 1.73 for 2-0 — are too short; the case sits with Sanchez Quilez at 3.00 for the first set, 3.00 for the second and 3.50 for the match.

Context

A lucky-loser place explains how he is in the draw at all: he lost his final qualifying match to Fausto Tabacco 6-0 4-6 6-1 and still took a main-draw slot when the field was completed. He arrives with three matches in three days at the venue, including a 6-3 3-6 6-1 qualifying win over Alexander Donski on 27 September. That accumulated play is the sharpest contrast with his opponent's preparation, and the cost is already visible in the scorelines, because he has dropped a set in each of the two matches he has played here.
- Lost the final qualifying round to Fausto Tabacco 6-0 4-6 6-1
- Beat Alexander Donski 6-3 3-6 6-1 in the preceding qualifying round on 27 September
- Added to the main draw as a lucky loser and drawn against second seed Jacob Fearnley

Fearnley's opening match is his first competitive appearance in 27 days, his last coming in a 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-3 US Open second-round defeat to Tomas Martin Etcheverry on 2 September. A gap of nearly four weeks leaves his match sharpness untested at the start of a week in which he is the second seed at Challenger level. The counterweight is that the break does not follow any known injury, and his most recent tennis was a hard-court Grand Slam run that included a five-set first-round win over Martin Landaluce.
- Lost to 27th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the US Open second round on 2 September
- Beat Martin Landaluce 4-6 6-2 4-6 7-5 6-3 in the US Open first round on 31 August
- Twenty-seven days separate the US Open match from the Porto first round

Fearnley still wins 72.3% of first-serve points across those 15 matches, so the first delivery remains his main weapon.
Double faults at that rate give the underdog free points and can keep games, and the match, longer than the ranking gap implies. When the first serve lands he wins 72.3% of those points, so the exposure is concentrated in the second delivery rather than spread across his whole game.
- 15 hard-court matches in the last-15 window, latest match 2 September 2026
- 96 double faults and 82 aces across those 15 matches, averaging 6.4 double faults and 5.5 aces per match
- First-serve points won: 524 of 725 (72.3%)
Porto's second Challenger of the month is a 125-level event on hard courts at the Monte Aventino complex, one step above the Challenger decided in the city in early September. The men's field was drawn around five top-100 players and Fearnley holds the second seeding, while this first-round match is listed on Court 2 rather than the centre court. The fixture's default frame is therefore a settled top-100 player against a lucky loser ranked around No. 370, and the surface itself offers neither man an obvious adjustment story, since both have played almost exclusively on hard courts this year.
- Men's event is an ATP Challenger 125 played on hard courts at the Monte Aventino complex
- Field drawn around five top-100 players, with Fearnley the second seed
- First-round match listed on Court 2
