Context last updated 28 Sep 2026, 06:38 · Europe/Bucharest

A main-draw place at the Curitiba Challenger is on the line, and Sakamoto is the likelier winner: better clay record, higher ranking, stronger recent form.

The counterweight is his packed week — an M15 final in the morning, then qualifying at night. Of the reviewed prices, De La Fuente to win at 3.00 and De La Fuente 2-0 at 5.25 are the two that offer something; Sakamoto's short quotes do not.

Context

Sakamoto contested singles at two Curitiba clubs, going from a lost M15 final in the morning into Challenger qualifying that evening. With a five-match M15 week behind him, that is a heavier and more fragmented load than a standard qualifying assignment, and De La Fuente had not played a match since 20 September. The mitigating detail is that the qualifying match was a straight-set win, so the double may have cost Sakamoto little physically.
- Sakamoto lost the M15 Curitiba final to Mateus Alves in the morning of and was back on court hours later at another club for the Challenger 75 qualifying.
- The last qualifying round at Curitiba lists Pedro Sakamoto (2) against Santiago de la Fuente (9), with the winner taking a main-draw place.
- Mateus Alves won the M15 Curitiba title with a 6/4 6/2 win over Sakamoto, his fifth title of the season.

This is the first of two M15 finals Sakamoto reached on Brazilian clay in September, both lost to Mateus Alves, so he arrives having repeatedly won matches at his own level rather than cold. It matters here because De La Fuente, more than 200 ranking places lower, has no comparable run of form behind him this month. The limitation is that M15 events are a step below the Challenger 75 qualifying field, so the finals are a form indicator rather than a direct read at this level.
- Mateus Alves and Pedro Sakamoto contested an all-Brazilian final at the ITF M15 in Leme (SP) in the week of 14 September 2026.
- Mateus Alves won the Leme title as one of his Brazilian M15 titles in 2026.

Both players are one win from a main-draw place at a Challenger 75 on clay, the surface each has played on almost exclusively. Curitiba was named the ATP's best Challenger 75 of 2025 and carries a US$107,000 prize fund with 75 points to the champion, so the reward is a step up from the M15 circuit both have been working through. The qualifying draw produced six main-draw places, and the main draw opened on the same day as this round.
- The Curitiba Challenger 75 main draw opened on Monday 28 September on the clay courts of the Graciosa Country Club, with US$107,000 in prize money and 75 points for the champion.
- Sixteen players competed in the qualifying draw for the last six main-draw places.
- The tournament was named the ATP's best Challenger 75 of 2025.

De La Fuente's route to this match ran through a Bolivian opponent he beat in straight sets on the opening qualifying day in Curitiba, his first win in a week. He has played almost exclusively on clay this year, so the surface requires no adjustment on his side. The counterweight is the ranking gap, with De La Fuente at No. 724 against Sakamoto's No. 506, and straight-set losses this season to players ranked outside the top 800.
- De La Fuente faced Boris Arias in the Curitiba qualifying on the evening of .
- De La Fuente won that match 7-6(5) 6-3 in straight sets.
