Moise Kouame #213France00 – 2Alexandre Muller #136France2

Muller reached the final of an ATP 500 in Rio in 2025 and held a career-high ranking of No. 38 in August 2025, so appearing as a qualifier at a 250-level event is a sharp departure from his recent standing. That frames the ranking gap here: he is still the higher-ranked player with the deeper tour-level record, but he is not arriving on a run of tour-level wins. The limitation is where that record is measured, since his 2026 wins have come in qualifying and Challenger play, which is also where Kouame has been competing through September.

Muller has five sets of competitive tennis across 22 and, including a three-set win, while Kouame's previous match was on 19 September, so the two arrive with clearly different match loads. The contrast cuts both ways: Muller is already adjusted to the court, the balls and match conditions, but he carries the heavier recent workload and a shorter recovery window into the first round. His two qualifying matches were also his first since early September, which layers that workload on a three-week gap without competition rather than on a busy schedule.

The top-200 entry is only days old when he plays this first round, and it came from a Challenger 50 semi-final in Vietnam that ended on 19 September, so Chengdu is his first chance to carry that form into a tour-level field. He then travelled to China with five days between matches, leaving him short of on-site competitive time compared with a qualifier. The counterweight is the standard of opposition, since every player he beat in Phan Thiet was ranked below him, so the ranking rests on winning the matches in front of him rather than on a result against a higher-ranked opponent.
