Context last updated 21 Sep 2026, 12:24 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players 14 ranking places apart open the Porto first round, and recent hard-court form tilts slightly toward Mia Pohankova, who has won four of six on the surface including a 6-1 6-1 win over No.95 Sinja Kraus.

She is the marginal favourite in what is close to a coin-flip. The one price that gives something back is Francisca Jorge to win at 3.3; the Under 2.5 sets line at 1.45 asks too much.

Context

Pohankova brings the best single win in this matchup's recent hard-court records.
That win shows Pohankova can handle a player ranked well above her own No.233, and it is the strongest result behind her 4-2 hard-court record in this window. It sits beside a 1-6 1-6 loss to No.77 Katie Volynets on 25 August 2026, so one scoreline should not be read as a settled level. Jorge, at No.219, is a different test: closer in ranking and with a longer hard-court record.
- 14 September 2026: beat Sinja Kraus, ranked 95, 6-1 6-1 on hard court.
- Kraus was the highest-ranked opponent Pohankova has beaten in the six hard-court matches tracked for her between 23 August and 19 September 2026.
Jorge's recent hard-court form has swung between convincing wins and a lopsided loss.
The scoreline is the weakest point in Jorge's 8-6 hard-court record and marks the floor of her recent level. Around it she beat No.230 Xinyu Gao 6-3 6-3 on 15 September and No.173 Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in three sets on 17 September, so the run is uneven rather than consistently poor. With the two players ranked 219 and 233, that swing is hard to dismiss when judging how close this first round is.
- 11 September 2026: lost to Anastasia Gasanova, ranked 191, 2-6 1-6 on hard court, winning three games to 12.
Jorge has been competitive on hard courts but has rarely closed matches quickly.
Across 14 hard-court matches tracked from 5 August to 18 September 2026, six ended in three sets: four 2-1 wins and two 1-2 losses. That means a close first round here can easily stretch past two sets, which is the main risk to any expectation of a fast finish. The 14-match sample excludes one retirement, and the sample is small enough that this reads as a tendency rather than a fixed pattern.
- Four of Jorge's last six hard-court matches, 9-18 September 2026, went to three sets.
- Jorge's 14 hard-court matches from 5 August to 18 September 2026 include six three-set scorelines (four 2-1 wins, two 1-2 losses); one retirement was excluded from the sample.
Pohankova's serve profile is the most detailed measurement available for either player here.
The gap between first and second serve makes her opening delivery the part of her game most likely to decide how comfortably she holds in this match. She landed 56.5% of first serves across those 15 matches and won 49.3% of all points, a modest return alongside her 6-9 record. Those figures cover every tracked match, not only the six on hard courts.
- 15 matches tracked: 64.2% of first-serve points won (371/578) and 45.4% of second-serve points won (202/445).
- 3.6 aces and 3.1 double faults per match, with 56.5% first serves in (578/1023) and 49.3% of total points won (1005/2038).
