Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 22 Sep 2026, 12:14 · Europe/Bucharest

Parks' serve is the biggest weapon here, but she lands under half her first serves and averages 8.8 double faults a match, which is where Yamaguchi's chances live.

Parks is still the likely winner. The 1.15 on her demands 87%, the 1.90 on a straight-sets finish offers nothing, and the 1.75 on three sets is no better. Yamaguchi at 5.25 is the one quoted price that returns more than her record costs.

Context

Parks' serve is both her route to cheap points and her main source of self-inflicted pressure.
She has won 69.8% of points behind her first serve across those 15 matches, so when the first ball lands she is difficult to break. The 8.2 double faults a match mean second serves come around often, and against an opponent who keeps the ball in play those points can be handed straight back.
- Last 15 matches: 90 aces, 6.0 per match.
- Last 15 matches: 123 double faults, 8.2 per match.
- First serves in: 540 of 1,079 (50.0%).
- First-serve points won: 377 of 540 (69.8%).
Parks has been starting matches slowly and often relying on a recovery.
Only two of those 13 opening sets reached a tiebreak, so they were usually settled by a break rather than fine margins. Her 6-7 record in the same window includes five matches that went to a deciding set, meaning she has repeatedly had to dig herself out. In a first-round match, a dropped opening set would put that pattern straight under pressure.
- 13 hard-court matches, 13 July to 15 September 2026: set one record 3-10.
- Average games in opening sets: 3.7 won, 5.7 lost.
- Only 2 of 13 opening sets reached a tiebreak.
- Scorelines across the window: five three-set matches, eight straight-set matches.
Yamaguchi comes into Singapore off a two-game showing against an opponent ranked below her.
It is a single-match sample and does not explain why the level dropped, but it was the fewest games she has won in her six most recent listed matches. The day before, she had beaten world No. 647 Ulrikke Eikeri 6-1 6-4, so her level has been swinging inside one week. She arrives without a competitive win over a top-300 opponent in her last two outings.
- 20 September 2026: lost 1-6 1-6 to Kyoka Okamura (world No. 322) on indoor hard.
- Games won 2, games lost 12; the match was completed, not retired.
