Pre-match view

Context last updated 15 Sep 2026, 03:16 · Europe/Bucharest

Sloane Stephens has a clear edge in recent form and return stats over Janice Tjen, making her the value pick at 2.10 odds (10.4-point edge).

The over 21.5 total games also offers value at 1.80, as both players tend to play longer matches. Stephens' superior return game should overcome Tjen's serve advantage in Guadalajara.

Context

Stephens, 33, is a former US Open champion now ranked 169, while Tjen, 22, is ranked 36 and has climbed quickly.
Stephens' recent hard-court results are stronger, but Tjen's higher ranking and better career win percentage suggest she can still compete. The surface sample for Tjen is smaller, so her recent struggles may not fully reflect her ability.
- Stephens' last 15 hard-court matches: 8 wins, 6 losses (57.1% win rate).
- Tjen's last 9 hard-court matches: 4 wins, 5 losses (44.4% win rate).
- Stephens' overall last 15 record: 8-7; Tjen's overall last 15 record: 5-10.
Tjen's aggressive serve has produced 46 aces in her last 9 hard-court matches.
If Tjen's first serve is not landing consistently, Stephens' solid return game could pressure her second serve. Tjen's low return points won suggests she may struggle to break Stephens' serve.
- Tjen's hard-court aces per match: 5.1 (46 aces in 9 matches).
- Tjen's hard-court return points won: 38.7%.
- Stephens' hard-court return points won: 45.3%.
Stephens has beaten players ranked 36, 95, 91, 131, and 58 in her recent wins.
Stephens' form may be inflated by weaker opposition, while Tjen has tested herself against top players like Mirra Andreeva. This could make the match closer than the recent records suggest.
- Stephens' last 5 wins: vs #36 Tauson, #95 Kraus, #91 Sierra, #131 Dart, #58 Starodubtseva.
- Tjen's recent losses include #5 Andreeva (twice) and #22 Kalinskaya.
