Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 8 Sep 2026, 15:38 · Europe/Bucharest

Martina Trevisan is a strong favorite over Jennifer Ruggeri, backed by superior recent form, a dominant return game, and a lopsided head-to-head win on clay.

Trevisan's straight-set efficiency and Ruggeri's double-fault issues point to a comfortable victory, with value on Trevisan -3.5 games and under 21.5 total games.

Context

Trevisan, 32, is a left-hander ranked 325 and a clay-court specialist with 254 career wins on the surface. Ruggeri, 27, is ranked 217 and also prefers clay, with 135 career wins on it.
Trevisan's last 15 matches on clay show a 73.3% win rate and a 60.7% games-won percentage, while Ruggeri's 14 clay matches in the same window show a 64.3% win rate and 50.3% games won. Trevisan also beat Ruggeri 6-0 6-3 on clay in June, which adds a direct recent edge. However, Ruggeri's sample includes a win over a top-120 player, so her form is not weak.
- Trevisan last 15 overall: 11-4 record, 73.3% win rate, 60.7% games won.
- Ruggeri last 15 overall: 9-6 record, 60% win rate, 49.7% games won.
- Trevisan beat Ruggeri 6-0 6-3 on clay on 2026-06-08.
- Ruggeri's recent wins include a victory over Kayla Day (ranked 117) in May.
Trevisan's return game is a key part of her clay success, as she converts break points at 52.2% in her last 15 matches. Ruggeri's return numbers are lower, and she has struggled to convert break points at 40.5%.
Trevisan's return points won percentage of 52.9% is significantly higher than Ruggeri's 45.9%, suggesting Trevisan will put more pressure on Ruggeri's serve. Trevisan also converts break points at a higher rate (52.2% vs 40.5%), which could be decisive in a match where both players have similar first-serve percentages. Ruggeri's higher double fault rate (7.1 per match vs 4.8) may give Trevisan additional chances.
- Trevisan return points won: 52.9% (484/915) in last 15 matches.
- Ruggeri return points won: 45.9% (563/1227) in last 14 clay matches.
- Trevisan break point conversion: 52.2% (82/157).
- Ruggeri break point conversion: 40.5% (68/168).
Ruggeri's serve has been a weakness in recent matches, with 7.1 double faults per match on clay and a second-serve win rate of only 39.6%. Trevisan's second-serve win rate is slightly better at 43.9%.
Ruggeri's double fault rate of 7.1 per match is notably higher than Trevisan's 4.8, and her second-serve points won (39.6%) is lower than Trevisan's (43.9%). This could lead to more free points for Trevisan on return and more pressure on Ruggeri's service games. However, Ruggeri's first-serve points won (62.5%) is comparable to Trevisan's (61.1%), so the difference is mainly on second serves.
- Ruggeri double faults per match: 7.1 on clay (100 in 14 matches).
- Trevisan double faults per match: 4.8 (72 in 15 matches).
- Ruggeri second-serve points won: 39.6% (151/381).
- Trevisan second-serve points won: 43.9% (130/296).
Trevisan came through qualifying to reach this main-draw match, so she has already played competitive matches at Montreux this week. That gives her recent match activity on these courts, but it does not change the main form and head-to-head signals that already favor her.
- The 7 September main-draw preview identifies Trevisan as promoted from qualifying for the scheduled first-round meeting with Ruggeri.
