Context last updated 4 Sep 2026, 15:15 · Europe/Bucharest

Rybakina's superior serve and hard-court form make her a strong favorite, but the match winner odds offer no value.

The best betting angle is under 18.5 total games, with Rybakina likely to win in straight sets. Avoid the -4.5 game handicap and the 2-0 set betting due to overpricing.

Context

Rybakina, 27, is ranked No. 2 and has won 31 hard-court matches in 2026, but her last hard-court outing ended early.
She retired at 4-1 down to Swiatek on August 20, then returned to win two matches at this tournament without dropping a set. The retirement is recent enough to matter, but her current results suggest she is managing the issue. If the problem flares again, Starodubtseva could benefit from a reduced opponent.
- On 2026-08-20, Rybakina retired at 4-1 down to Iga Swiatek in a hard-court match.
- Since then, she has won two matches at the US Open in straight sets, losing only 11 games total.
Rybakina, the WTA No. 2 and right-hander, retired from her Cincinnati match against Iga Swiatek on 20 August with a left ankle issue. She then spent a week off court before resuming practice.
The ankle retirement and missed practice week raise a real question about her movement and serving under Grand Slam load. She has since won two US Open matches in straight sets, losing only 11 games, which suggests the ankle is not currently limiting her. Still, the interrupted preparation means her physical ceiling in a longer match is less certain than her ranking suggests.
- The Cincinnati retirement followed difficulty pushing off on serve and a mid-game medical assessment.
- The subsequent US Open update recorded a week away from practice before her return to court.
- Stored recent sample: 4 wins from 5 tracked matches.
- A tracked match on 2026-08-20T00:00:00.000Z against Iga Swiatek ended by retirement; the stored result was L.

Starodubtseva, 25, is ranked No. 58 and has a 13-7 clay record in 2026, but this match is on hard court.
She beat Rybakina 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) at the French Open, showing she can handle Rybakina's power in a long match. However, that win came on clay, where Rybakina's serve is less dominant. On hard court, Rybakina's first-serve points won is 75.1% in her last 12 matches, so Starodubtseva will need to return as well as she did in that upset.
- Starodubtseva defeated Rybakina 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) on clay on 2026-05-27.
- In that match, Starodubtseva won 46% of return points and converted 45% of break points.
Starodubtseva needed 2 hours 42 minutes to beat Maria Sakkari in the second round, while Rybakina finished her match in 68 minutes.
The 94-minute difference in second-round court time gives Rybakina a fresher body entering this match. Starodubtseva's longer match could affect her recovery, especially if this match goes to a third set. However, the extra match time also means Starodubtseva has more recent competitive rhythm.
- The two second-round matches were reported with a 94-minute difference in duration.
