Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 30 Aug 2026, 03:02 · Europe/Bucharest

Sheng Tang has a significant edge in recent form and break point conversion over Filip Peliwo, making him a strong underdog pick at 3.50 odds.

Peliwo's poor recent results and low break point conversion make his 1.25 price unattractive. Tang +1.5 games and over 21.5 total games are also worth considering.

Context

Tang, 898th in the ATP rankings, is a Chinese player who has been competing mostly on hard and indoor hard courts this season.
He retired from his most recent match on August 17 and also retired on June 29. Those two retirements in the last two months suggest a possible ongoing physical issue. If he is not fully fit, Peliwo could benefit from a shorter or less intense match.
- Tang retired at 4-1 down in the first set against Xin Zhou on August 17.
- He also retired at 6-2 3-1 down against Bill Chan on June 29.
- Both retirements occurred within the last two months.
Tang is the wildcard entrant in this first-round qualifying match, while Peliwo is the 10th seed.
This is the opening qualifying round in Zhangjiagang, so the winner advances toward the main draw and the loser is eliminated. The seed difference does not change the immediate stakes, but it frames the match as a qualifier rather than a main-draw contest.
- The qualifying draw lists Tang (WC) against Peliwo (10) in the first qualifying round.

Peliwo, ranked 554th, is a Canadian veteran with extensive Challenger experience. Tang, ranked 898th, has been playing mostly in China.
Peliwo's recent record is worse, but his losses have often come against higher-ranked players. Tang's wins have been against unranked or lower-ranked opponents. This suggests the ranking gap may be more meaningful than the recent win-loss records indicate.
- Peliwo's last 15 matches: 6 wins, 9 losses.
- Tang's last 15 matches: 9 wins, 6 losses.
- Peliwo's recent opponents include players ranked 258, 351, and 616.
- Tang's recent wins have come against unranked players or those ranked outside the top 800.
