Pre-match view

Context last updated 23 Oct 2026, 22:18 · Europe/Bucharest

A 500-place ranking gap says Zakharova should advance, but Zhang has won 8 of her 13 opening sets on hard and six of those matches went the distance.

Straight sets for Zakharova is the likelier tennis, yet her 1.05 match price asks for 95%. Zhang at 10 to win, 6 in either set, over 19.5 games at 2.4 and over 2.5 sets at 4.25 all offer something.

Context

Zhang's edge is concentrated in the opening set; her second-set record is the weakest part of her hard-court sample.
Zhang's best route is a quick start. Her 8-5 first-set record contrasts with 4-9 in second sets, where she has been outscored 4.15 games to 5.31. Zakharova's own second-set mark is modest at 6-9 over 15 matches, so the opening set looks the more useful target for the lower-ranked player.
- Zhang won 8 of 13 first sets on hard between 16 July and 5 October 2026.
- She won 4 of 13 second sets in the same sample, with a games average of 4.15 won to 5.31 lost.
- Her first-set games average was 5.08 won to 4.38 lost.
- Two retirements were excluded from the 13-match sample.
Zakharova has been finishing matches in two sets, win or lose, which shapes how long this one is likely to run.
Only one of these 15 matches reached a third set, and Zakharova's six wins in the span all came 2-0. Games have been close: she averaged 19.13 total games a match and won 48.8% of them. Against an opponent who has played six three-setters in 13, that record points to a shorter match without settling it.
- Zakharova played 15 completed hard-court matches between 7 August and 21 October 2026, averaging 2.07 sets.
- Her scorelines in that span: six 2-0 wins, eight 0-2 losses and one 1-2 loss.
- She averaged 19.13 total games per match and won 48.8% of games.
- No retirements were excluded from the 15-match sample.
This is the standout win inside a 6-9 hard-court run and shows the level Zakharova can still reach.
It is the only top-50 opponent in her recent results, and the second set went to 7-5 rather than running away. Nothing else in the six-match window reaches that level, with her other win coming against a player ranked 684. It is one result, not a trend, but it is the clearest sign of what the higher-ranked player can produce.
- 17 October 2026: Zakharova beat Yuliia Starodubtseva (ranked 50) 6-1 7-5 on hard.
- She won 13 games to 6 across the two sets.
A straight-sets loss to a player ranked 275 is the clearest illustration of the level Zhang has been competing at.
The 13-match hard-court sample is 5-8, and this defeat sits inside it alongside a loss to Storm Hunter (151). Zakharova, ranked 111, has spent the same period facing players inside the top 105. Zhang's first-set record keeps the match interesting, but the level check still favours the higher-ranked player.
- 25 September 2026: Zhang lost 4-6 2-6 to Daria Khomutsianskaya (ranked 275) on indoor hard.
- She won six games across the two sets.
