Context last updated 21 Oct 2026, 07:30 · Europe/Bucharest

Jarry is back after an elbow layoff since April and a three-hour win over the defending champion, while Pucinelli brings two Challenger quarter-finals and a straight-sets Cali opener.

Pucinelli is the likelier winner because his clay form is more settled and Jarry's elbow is still being managed. The 1.73 on Pucinelli to win the match makes him the favourite but does not make the price worthwhile, and 2.00 on Jarry is no better, so neither is worth taking.

Context

The six-month gap and the specific injury, a right elbow fracture, made this a live question about whether the arm would hold through a competitive match rather than a routine first round. He answered it by winning in three sets over roughly three hours against a top-160 opponent who was defending the title. That removes the untested-comeback uncertainty from this fixture and puts a player with a career-high No. 16 into a round of 16 against a lower-ranked opponent. The three hours are the counterweight: it was the longest possible first match, and the elbow went through it.
- Jarry had not competed since April 2026 because of a right elbow fracture
- He entered the Cali main draw on a wildcard while ranked No. 854
- He beat No. 5 seed and defending champion Barrios Vera 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2
- The first-round match ran roughly three hours

This is the player's own assessment the day after his first match in six months, and it is specific to the serving arm of a 201 cm right-hander whose first strike is the part of his game the fracture affects. It qualifies the comeback rather than contradicting it: he won, but he is managing a joint that has not settled fully, and no timeline for full recovery has been offered. The consequence for this fixture is that his level may not be repeatable across consecutive matches, and that his serving capacity over three sets is the thing to watch. The win itself is not in doubt; the durability of the arm behind it is.
- Jarry said the elbow is not entirely well but is being managed
- Jarry said he hopes he has found the solution
- Jarry said he felt sensations he had not had for a long time

A fifth edition with a deeper entry list than its predecessors is why a former world No. 16, the reigning champion and a former Cali champion all landed in the same 32-player draw, and it lifts the round of 16 above a routine Challenger 75 week. The title is open: Barrios Vera, who won the previous edition, went out in the first round, so the 75 points and the quarter-final place are there for either player. Conditions are the same clay both have played on through the South American swing, so the surface adds no unfamiliar variable to the tie.
- The tournament is in its fifth edition, 18-25 October 2026
- Played on clay at Club Campestre Farallones in Santiago de Cali
- Barrios Vera was the defending champion, Varillas won in 2024
- The round of 16 tie is scheduled for Wednesday

Two consecutive Challenger quarter-finals and a 30-place ranking gain within October represent the most settled stretch of Pucinelli's season since his April return from injury. It matters here because the ranking gap to Jarry is misleading: the Chilean has one completed match since April, while the Brazilian has won eight of his last fifteen and has been playing every week this month. The counterpoint is that No. 240 remains well below his 2022 career high of No. 190, so the run is a recovery toward his previous level rather than evidence of a new one.
- Rose 15 places to No. 255 after the Curitiba quarter-final in early October
- Reached the quarter-finals in Curitiba and Antofagasta this month
- Won his Cali first round 6-4, 7-5
- Listed at No. 240 for this match
