A 256-place ranking gap and a first meeting put Wong, the Asian Games champion, against a player who has lost eight of his last 14 hard-court matches in straight sets.

Wong should win, and a straight-sets finish is the likeliest shape. His 1.03 match price and 1.3 for a 2-0 win ask more than that record justifies; the prices with room are Delaney at 9 for the match and 5.25 for either set.

Context

Wong arrives in Guangzhou as the reigning continental champion, having come from a set and a break down to beat Khumoyun Sultanov in the semi-final before handling Wu Yibing in the final. It matters here as a level marker rather than a tactical edge: the run was built on Asian hard courts against opponents near the top 100, which supports his standing as the stronger player in this opening round. The limitation is that a multi-sport field is shallower than a Challenger draw, and his only matches since Nagoya were a Shanghai qualifying run and a first-round exit.
- Wong beat China's Wu Yibing 6-2 6-4 in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 men's singles final
- It was the first Asian Games tennis singles gold for Hong Kong, China
- The gold carries direct entry to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics singles event, subject to remaining inside the top 500 by 12 June 2028
- In the semi-final Wong came from a set and a break down to beat Khumoyun Sultanov 3-6 6-3 6-2

That week is the strongest recent evidence of Wong's level on Chinese hard courts: he beat a Chinese opponent with a tour-level record and then a seeded one in consecutive rounds before taking a set off the draw's top seed, who lifted the trophy. It matters because he now faces a player ranked 256 places below him, and the Hangzhou run shows he has been converting that kind of ranking gap into wins at tour level rather than only in Challengers. The counterpoint is that the run is three weeks old and was followed by an immediate Shanghai exit, so it describes his ceiling more than his current sharpness.
- Wong beat Zhang Zhizhen 6-3 6-3 and Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 7-6(2) 4-6 6-3 in Hangzhou
- Wong lost his Hangzhou quarter-final to top seed Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-7(2) 6-3
- Medvedev served 18 aces in that quarter-final and won the Hangzhou title

Wong's opening sets have been the most settled part of his recent hard-court record.
Wong's first-set record is the most stable part of his recent hard-court sample, and winning the opener would let him play from ahead. Six of those 14 matches still went to a third set, though, so a fast start has not guaranteed a short afternoon.
- Wong won 10 of 14 first sets in completed hard-court matches between 12 August and 7 October 2026
- He averaged 5.57 games won and 4.57 lost in first sets across that sample
- Only two of those 14 first sets reached a tiebreak
Delaney's recent results have been either two-set wins or two-set losses, with very little in between.
Delaney's recent record is short on wins and short on resistance: 12 of those 14 matches finished in two sets. If Wong takes control early, the sample offers little evidence of a comeback route, though four of Delaney's wins were 2-0, so he can close out matches of his own.
- Delaney's 14 completed hard-court matches from 26 August to 13 October 2026 produced a 6-8 record
- All eight defeats finished 0-2; four wins came 2-0 and two came 2-1
- His average match length across that sample was 2.14 sets
- One retired match was excluded from the sample
