Context last updated 17 Oct 2026, 22:18 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players who each need two wins to reach the Nansha main draw meet in the first round of qualifying, and Binda brings the stronger hard-court record — 10-5 against Demin's 2-5 — but arrives 19 days after a 1-6 0-6 loss.

Binda winning, most likely in straight sets, is the plain read. The prices that hold up are all his: 1.85 to win, 2.90 for 2-0 and 1.80 for the first set; Demin at 1.85 and 1.90 does not.

Context

Four wins in one week on Guangzhou hard courts is the clearest evidence of Binda's current level and explains why he is the higher-ranked player in this qualifying match. The limitation is the class of opposition he has beaten: Tomic (No. 185) closed him out 6-3 6-4, and in Jingshan qualifying on 29 September Adam Walton (No. 98) beat him 6-1 6-0. Against a player of Demin's ranking, that September week reads as a demonstration of a floor rather than of a level above this qualifying field.
- Binda beat Kaito Uesugi, Kousuke Ogura, Aoran Wang and Fajing Sun in Guangzhou in September 2026, the Sun win coming 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4 in the second round.
- Bernard Tomic ended that run 6-3 6-4 in the quarterfinal .
- Binda was No. 548 at that tournament and is listed at No. 474 for the Nansha Challenger 75.
- Binda is entered in the qualifying draw of the Nansha Challenger 75, whose main draw was released .
ConfirmedSources checked 17 Oct 2026, 22:16 · Europe/Bucharest
The preparation gap is asymmetric: Binda arrives with nearly three weeks of rest but no recent evidence of level, his last outing a 6-1 6-0 defeat, while Demin has two matches this week on the same Chinese hard-court swing. For a 21-year-old ranked No. 653, that recent match play is the more useful signal of where his game sits, although the three-setter also means he has spent more time on court than Binda in the past week. The counterpoint is that a two-to-three week gap is ordinary at this level, so the difference is sharpness at the start of qualifying rather than fatigue.
- Binda was eliminated in Jingshan Challenger qualifying by Adam Walton, winning one game.
- Demin was scheduled and played at the M25 in QianDaohu, losing in three sets to Matthew Dellavedova after taking the opening set 6-2.
- Binda has no recorded match between and this 18 October qualifying round.
ReportedSources checked 17 Oct 2026, 22:16 · Europe/Bucharest
Demin's second sets are the part of his game that has held up least in this hard-court window.
If Binda takes the opener, Demin's recent record offers little sign of a comfortable route back into the match. Demin also lost four of those seven matches in straight sets, so the second set has often been the end of his afternoon rather than a turning point. The sample is small, though, and he did win the opening set 6-2 against No. 283 Dellavedova on 15 October.
- Second-set record across 7 completed hard-court matches, 19 July to 15 October 2026: 2 wins, 5 losses, 4.0 games won against 5.57 lost.
- In the same seven matches Demin lost four 0-2, won two 2-0 and lost one 1-2.
- None of the seven matches included a tiebreak.
Binda's fast starts are the most repeatable part of his hard-court record in this window.
A first set against Binda tends to be where he establishes the match, which is what the 1.80 price on him to take it speaks to. Five of those 15 matches contained a tiebreak, so the opener has not always been a clean break. The sample stops on 29 September, before his 19-day gap without a match.
- First-set record across 15 completed hard-court matches, 10 August to 29 September 2026: 10 wins, 5 losses, 5.27 games won against 4.53 lost.
- Five of the 15 matches contained at least one tiebreak, two of them in first sets.
- His most recent completed match, on 29 September, was a 1-6 0-6 loss to No. 98 Adam Walton.
