A WTA 125 Mallorca semifinal on clay pits Zidansek's strong starts and three-set habit against the 18-year-old Samson, who has won nine of her last 11 completed clay matches.

Their only meeting went to three sets on hard court and Zidansek won it; 2.1 for her to win the match, 2.3 for over 2.5 sets and 4.5 for a 2-1 Zidansek win are prices worth considering. Samson at 1.73 to win asks for more than her clay form justifies.

Context

Mallorca is an outdoor clay WTA 125, the surface Zidansek prefers, and she has won six of nine tracked clay matches in 2026. She needed three sets and closed the decider 6-3 against Masarova, so she arrives at the semifinal having played seven completed sets across three rounds. Samson completed only one set in her quarterfinal because of a retirement, leaving Zidansek with the heavier recent workload on the same-day turnaround. That extra time on court is the main physical variable working against her.
- Zidansek defeated Masarova 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the Mallorca quarterfinals
- She had beaten Steur 6-2 6-1 in the second round and Papamichail 6-4 6-2 in the first round
ConfirmedSources checked 16 Oct 2026, 22:41 · Europe/Bucharest
Samson has won three matches in Mallorca while spending less time on court than Zidansek, because her quarterfinal ended after a single 6-0 set when Lazaro Garcia retired. The win over the fifth seed is the strongest result of her week on paper, but the retirement limits how much it says about her level against seeded opposition. She is 18 and ranked No. 128, so the semifinal is a step above her usual tier. Her 11 wins in 13 tracked clay matches in 2026 are the strongest indicator that the surface suits her.
- Samson beat Teixido Garcia 6-3 2-6 6-3 in the first round
- She beat Nguyen Tan 6-0 6-3 and advanced from the quarterfinal when Lazaro Garcia retired at 6-0
ConfirmedSources checked 16 Oct 2026, 22:41 · Europe/Bucharest
A first WTA 125 title at Targu Mures plus a Ljubljana semifinal show Samson is already winning at this level, not merely competing. Her live ranking around No. 118 sits close to Zidansek's current No. 161, so the nominal ranking gap is smaller than the raw numbers suggest. On clay she has won 11 of 13 tracked matches in 2026, and this event is outdoor clay. The caveat is that she and Zidansek have never met on clay; their only completed meeting came on a hard court.
- Samson won her first WTA 125 title at Targu Mures in 2026 and reached the Ljubljana semifinals
- Her live ranking rose to about No. 118 during the Mallorca week
ReportedSources checked 16 Oct 2026, 22:41 · Europe/Bucharest
Zidansek's nine completed clay matches have averaged 27 games and 2.67 sets, with six running to a deciding set, so the record points to a long semifinal. The caveat is that three of the nine ended in straight sets, all Zidansek wins, while all three of her clay defeats also went the distance.
- Zidansek's nine completed clay matches from 14 July to 16 October 2026 averaged 27.0 games and 2.67 sets
- Six of those nine matches went to a deciding set: three 2-1 wins and three 1-2 defeats, alongside three straight-set wins
