Simakin, No. 154 and 13-2 in his last 15 hard-court matches, meets Pavlovic, No. 207, in Almaty qualifying twelve days after beating him in three sets in Shanghai qualifying.

He is the likely winner, most probably in straight sets, but the reviewed prices — 1.44 to win the match and 1.5 to take the opening set — ask more than his record supports. Neither is worth taking.

Context

Opening qualifying round on indoor hard court at Almaty Arena, listed third on Court 1 from 3pm local on the first day of the ATP 250. Both players come off recent completed matches with no reported availability concerns, so conditions are ordinary for a qualifying opener.

Their only recorded meeting came in Shanghai Masters qualifying in early October 2026, where Simakin recovered from a set down to win 4-6 6-4 6-1. It gives both players a recent, specific read on the other's patterns on quick hard courts and hands Simakin a direct win to reference in the week's preparation. The Almaty rematch is nonetheless a different court in a different continent, so the result is a form reference rather than a proven matchup edge.
- Shanghai Masters qualifying first round, early October 2026: Simakin beat Pavlovic 4-6 6-4 6-1.
- Almaty Open qualifying first round, 17 October 2026: the pair are drawn together again at the same stage.

Simakin won three of the four ATP Challenger 50 titles staged in Phan Thiet, the week that marked Vietnam's return to professional tennis after an eight-year absence. The haul anchors his 2026 hard-court form and the ranking rise that puts him at No. 154, above Pavlovic. Challenger 50 fields are a lower level than the Almaty qualifying draw, so the sequence is an indicator of surface form rather than proof against this level of opponent.
- Phan Thiet hosted four consecutive ATP Challenger 50 events in 2026, Vietnam's first professional tennis events in eight years.
- Simakin won three of the four Phan Thiet titles.

Simakin's edge in this window shows set by set: he won 11 of 15 opening sets and 11 of 15 second sets, and only four of the 15 matches needed a tiebreak. An average of 22.3 games per match reflects how often he closes in straight sets, with eight 2-0 wins set against five 2-1 wins and two defeats. For Pavlovic, that pattern leaves little room for a slow start or one loose service game.
- ATP hard-court matches, 6 September to 13 October 2026 (15 completed matches): Simakin won the opening set 11-4 and the second set 11-4.
- Scorelines in that window: eight 2-0 wins, five 2-1 wins, one 0-2 loss and one 1-2 loss.
- Average total games per match 22.3, with four of the 15 matches featuring a tiebreak.
Almaty Arena hosts the opening qualifying day, and this match is scheduled third on Court 1, not before 3pm local. Outside-court qualifying gives both players an early read on the venue's bounce and pace before the main draw starts on 19 October. The listed time is a floor rather than a fixed start, since it follows two earlier matches on the same court.
- Almaty Open Day 1 schedule, 17 October 2026: qualifying matches on the centre court and Court 1 at Almaty Arena.
- The match is listed third on Court 1, from 3pm local.
