Daria Snigur, the WTA No. 42, drops into Ningbo qualifying against 16-year-old home wildcard Yu Jun Lin, ranked No. 889 — a mismatch on paper, with Snigur beating top-50 hard-court opposition this month.

Snigur should win, and a straight-sets win is the likeliest shape of it. Her 1.01 price offers nothing; Lin at 19 is the quote that stands out, implied at 5.3% against 13%.

Context

Snigur's most recent competitive evidence is Wuhan, where she beat No. 14 seed Elise Mertens 6-4 7-5 and then lost 7-5 6-3 to Janice Tjen the next day. That is a short turnaround into a qualifying match on 17 October, and it is her second event in China inside a fortnight after reaching the Beijing round of 16. The Mertens win shows she is converting against seeded hard-court opposition, which sets the level she brings to Ningbo. The Tjen defeat is the more recent result, so the win should be read as a single high-quality performance rather than a continuous run of form.
- Snigur beat No. 14 seed Elise Mertens 6-4 7-5 in the first round at Wuhan
- She reached a career-high live ranking of No. 40 with the win
- Janice Tjen beat her 7-5 6-3 in the second round

Snigur's Beijing fortnight produced a career milestone: the first time she went beyond the second round at a WTA 1000, having previously lost at that stage in Madrid and Cincinnati. She recovered from a set down against qualifier Katarzyna Kawa, repeated the comeback against No. 14 seed Jasmine Paolini, then dropped one game to Taylah Preston. The run ended 6-2 6-2 against Mirra Andreeva, so it establishes a higher sustained level without evidence she has closed the gap to the top of the draw. For this fixture it is the clearest measure of the hard-court form she carries into Ningbo qualifying.
- Snigur recovered from a set down to beat qualifier Katarzyna Kawa 3-6 6-4 7-5 in Beijing
- She then beat No. 14 seed Jasmine Paolini 3-6 7-6(5) 6-2
- A 6-0 6-1 win over Taylah Preston sent her to her first WTA 1000 round of 16; Mirra Andreeva won 6-2 6-2

Snigur, the WTA No. 42, brings the deeper and much more recent hard-court record into this qualifying match.
Snigur has played 14 completed hard-court matches since 20 July and won nine, six of them 2-0. Ten of the 14 finished in straight sets, and the sample averages 2.29 sets and 21.5 games, so the common shape is a two-set match. That is one player's three-month record rather than a forecast, and it says nothing about how Lin will play.
- Snigur is 9-5 in 14 completed hard-court matches from 20 July to 14 October 2026
- Six of those wins were 2-0 and 10 of the 14 matches ended in straight sets
- The sample averages 2.29 sets and 21.5 games per match, with three matches containing a tiebreak
Lin is a 16-year-old Chinese player ranked No. 889 who is being given home tour-level opportunities, including a 2026 China Open main-draw wildcard. Her WTA main-draw debut there ended in a 6-2 6-1 loss to Storm Hunter, and she now enters the Ningbo qualifying at home against the draw's top seed. The ranking and experience gap is the defining feature of this matchup: her professional wins have come on Chinese ITF events, and this is a step up against a top-50 opponent. Reporting on her is otherwise thin, so this is the most concrete current picture available.
- Lin Yujun was named among the eight 2026 China Open main-draw wildcards
- She lost 6-2 6-1 to Storm Hunter in her WTA main-draw debut
- Her professional wins have come on ITF events in China
