Context last updated 14 Oct 2026, 06:05 · Europe/Bucharest

Three weeks after Mena beat Kicker 6-4, 6-4 in Buenos Aires, the two Argentines meet again in Santa Cruz, both coming off straight-set first-round wins.

Mena, ranked 197 to Kicker's 351, looks the likely winner. The quoted 1.67 on him offers something, as do 1.73 for the first set, 1.70 for the second and 2.60 for a 2-0 win; Kicker's prices do not.

Context

The Buenos Aires quarterfinal is the only recent direct evidence between these two, and Mena won it 6-4, 6-4 without dropping a set. It matters because it shows Mena converting a higher ranking into a controlled win on the same surface they meet on here. Kicker had won his two previous matches in that event, including one against a seeded opponent, so the straight-sets scoreline should not be read as a wide gap. Their meeting here is a rematch inside three weeks on the same clay circuit.
- Mena beat Kicker 6-4, 6-4 in the Buenos Aires Challenger quarterfinals
- Mena advanced to the Buenos Aires semifinals

This is the form that separates the two on paper: Mena, also 33, arrives as the higher-ranked and seeded player largely on the back of a September title and a final. Eight straight wins and a 12-1 record across three tournaments is the strongest sustained run either player has produced in this stretch. The limitation is that the run peaked in September rather than at this event, and it ended at the Buenos Aires semifinal stage, so it supports his rating more than a claim about his current level in Santa Cruz.
- Mena had won eight consecutive matches before the Buenos Aires quarterfinal
- His September run included a title in Porto and a final in Augsburg
- He held a 12-1 record across his previous three tournaments
ConfirmedSources checked 14 Oct 2026, 06:03 · Europe/Bucharest
Mena's tracked clay record from 27 August to 13 October 2026 contains nine 2-0 wins, three 2-1 wins and two 0-2 defeats. His set-one record is less dominant — 10 wins and 4 losses, with three tiebreaks — so he has not always started smoothly even when closing in two sets. Kicker's own clay sample includes four three-set matches, which leaves this second-round meeting capable of running longer than the scorelines suggest.
- Mena's 14 tracked clay matches from 27 August to 13 October 2026 contain nine 2-0 wins, three 2-1 wins and two 0-2 defeats
- His set-one record in that sample is 10 wins and 4 losses with three tiebreaks
Both players arrive at the same stage on the same clay surface after straight-set opening wins, so neither carries a visible physical or scheduling disadvantage into the round. The one clear asymmetry is ranking and seeding: Mena is the seventh seed and ranked No. 197, while Kicker is unseeded at No. 351, which makes Mena the higher-rated side on paper. That margin is modest because Kicker is a former top-80 player and the two share the same clay-oriented Argentine Challenger profile.
- Kicker beat qualifier Thiago Cigarran 6-3, 6-2 in the Santa Cruz de la Sierra 2 first round
- Seventh seed Mena beat Pedro Boscardin Dias 7-5, 6-4 in the first round
- The second-round match between the two Argentines is scheduled on clay
