Context last updated 14 Oct 2026, 02:44 · Europe/Bucharest

Galfi is the higher-ranked seed but has been ordinary on clay, while Jorge has home support and a straight-set opener behind her.

Galfi should still come through, most likely in straight sets, but the 1.07 on her asks for more than she has shown. Jorge at 8.5 is the one quoted price that offers anything, and it is not a comfortable one.

Context

Jorge is competing at home in Lisbon with family on site: her sister Francisca is also alive in the singles draw and the pair remain in the doubles quarter-finals. That brings local crowd support and a familiar setting, which is the kind of condition that can lift an underdog early in a match. The same factor carries a schedule cost, because a live doubles run adds matches on top of her singles campaign. It should be read as environment and workload rather than as evidence of a playing advantage over Galfi.
- Matilde Jorge advanced to the second round of the WTA 125 Lisboa Belém Open.
- Her sister Francisca Jorge also reached the second round of the same event.
- Both sisters are through to the doubles quarter-finals.

The Oeiras title shows Galfi has already won a comparable WTA 125 event on Portuguese clay, the same surface and tournament tier as this week. That gives her a proven route through this type of draw and some comfort with the setting. The counterpoint is timing: both titles came in 2025 and she has not added a title at this level in 2026, so the record supports surface suitability more than current form. It matters because Jorge's clay exposure is minimal by comparison.
- Galfi's 2025 tournament wins include WTA 125 clay titles at Oeiras and Vic.
- The Oeiras title was won on Portuguese clay at the same event tier as the Lisboa Belém Open.
- Her 2026 season has been split across surfaces, with a smaller clay sample than hard-court sample.

This is the first staging of the event at WTA 125 level, so neither player brings prior results, court familiarity or crowd experience at this specific venue. A compact 32-player draw means the opening rounds are compressed and adaptation to the surface happens quickly, which can matter for a player arriving from a different continent or surface. The value is context rather than a playing edge: no court-speed, altitude or weather information for the site is available, so the newness of the event should frame expectations rather than be read as a conditions story.
- The Lisboa Belém Open is listed as the inaugural WTA 125 edition, held 12-18 October 2026 on clay.
- The event carries a $115,000 commitment and a 32-player singles main draw.
- Both players won their opening matches there to reach this second-round meeting.

A 6-0 6-1 opener gives Galfi a short first match on the surface and confirms she has settled into the venue without a long physical outing. Jorge also won in straight sets but needed a tighter 7-5 second set, so neither player arrives carrying a heavy early workload. The limitation is that Castro held no ranking, so the scoreline says little about how Galfi will handle a ranked opponent in the next round.
- Galfi defeated Beatriz Castro 6-0 6-1 in the Lisboa Belém Open first round .
- The win came in her first match on clay at this event.
