Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 13 Oct 2026, 03:22 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players with identical 11-4 hard-court records meet in the Rovereto second round, but Bandecchi's serving and her 13-2 record in opening sets point her way, even with Knutson arriving off a win over the eighth seed.

Bandecchi to win is the read. At 1.85 her win is the one price assessed as value; Knutson's 1.95 should be left alone.

Context

Knutson, ranked No. 163, removed the No. 8 seed from her section in straight sets, opening a clearer route through the draw. The win needs context: Arango arrived on a five-match losing run, so the 6-4 6-3 score partly reflects an opponent short of form. It matters because Knutson has previously gone deep at this event, reaching the quarter-finals in 2025, so the conditions suit her game.
- Knutson beat No. 8 seed Emiliana Arango 6-4 6-3 in the Rovereto first round .
- The win moved her into the round of 16.
- Arango arrived on a five-match losing run.

Bandecchi has started matches on the front foot far more often than not in this hard-court window.
Winning 13 of 15 opening sets means Knutson faces a likely deficit if she starts slowly. The window covers 12 August to 12 October 2026, so it is a short sample rather than a fixed pattern. Knutson has won 11 of her own 15 opening sets, so the gap exists but is not enormous.
- Bandecchi won set one in 13 of 15 hard-court matches and lost it twice, from 12 August to 12 October 2026.
- She averaged 5.8 games won and 3.1 games lost in opening sets across the same 15 matches.
Knutson's second serve and break-point defence are the softest parts of an otherwise solid 11-4 hard-court run.
That gives Bandecchi a clear return target and is the strongest reason she rates ahead in this matchup. Knutson still won 11 of those 15 matches, so the serving numbers have not been fatal. Bandecchi's own figures are better on both counts, at 53.1% of second-serve points won and 70.9% of break points saved.
- Knutson won 42.8% of second-serve points (177 of 414) and saved 55.9% of break points (66 of 118) across 15 hard-court matches.
- She averaged 4.7 double faults a match (70 in 15) over the same window from 7 August to 12 October 2026.
Knutson's US Open breakthrough came after ten unsuccessful Grand Slam qualifying entries and a US college career at Syracuse, where she was a two-time All-American. That history explains why a 29-year-old ranked outside the top 150 now competes as a settled WTA 125 and ITF-level player rather than a newcomer. The debut itself creates no playing advantage in Rovereto, but it is the clearest marker of her current level and continuity.
- Knutson entered Grand Slam qualifying ten times before her first main-draw appearance.
- The breakthrough came at the 2026 US Open.
- She was a two-time All-American at Syracuse.
