A main-draw place at the Santa Cruz Challenger turns on this qualifying decider, with Alves carrying 12 wins from 14 clay matches and Fernandez fresh off a 6-0 6-1 qualifying win.

Alves is the likelier winner, but his 1.29 price for the first set and 1.65 for a straight-sets win ask more than the tennis justifies. Fernandez at 4.75 for the match and 3.3 for the second set are the two prices with potential value.

Context

Alves, ranked No. 385, steps straight into the decider while Fernandez, No. 567, must back up a two-set win from . The reward is a place in the main draw of a Challenger 75, worth ranking points and prize money to two players outside the top 350. The workload difference is real but modest: a 6-0 6-1 qualifying win is short, and Alves has played singles and doubles at Antofagasta in the past week, so neither arrives clearly fresher.
- Alves entered the qualifying competition directly in the final round and was drawn against Fernandez.
- Fernandez beat Nicolas Donoso 6/0, 6/1 in the first qualifying round.
- The qualifying draw places the winner of this match in the Bolivia Open main draw.

This run explains how a player ranked No. 385 arrives with rhythm on the clay used in Santa Cruz and frames him as the more in-form of the two Brazilians. The titles came at M15 level, two tiers below the Challenger 75 this match feeds into, so the form is a rhythm indicator rather than a like-for-like comparison. That level gap is the specific limit on how much the run can be read into a qualifying decider.
- Alves beat Pedro Sakamoto to win the M15 in Leme in mid-September.
- Alves beat Sakamoto again in an all-Brazilian final to win the M15 in Curitiba .
- Across his last four ITF events he collected three titles and one runner-up finish.

The run shows Fernandez, No. 567, can win at Challenger level immediately after coming through qualifying, which is exactly the task in Santa Cruz. It also marks the ceiling of that week: he was beaten in straight sets by a seeded opponent ranked around No. 200 and did not progress beyond the last 16. That places the weight on his current qualifying form rather than on a sustained Challenger breakthrough.
- Fernandez was seeded fourth in the qualifying draw at the Curitiba Challenger 75.
- He won his first-round main-draw match at Curitiba against Wilson Leite.
- He then lost 6-2 7-5 to fifth seed Lautaro Midon in the round of 16 .

These results are the counterweight to his ITF title run: at Challenger level Alves has been unable to advance past the last 16 or a qualifying decider. Both defeats came in straight sets, and the Antofagasta loss came against a player ranked well below him, which is directly relevant to a qualifying decider of this kind. His singles and doubles workload across the South American swing adds a further consideration.
- Alves lost 6-2 6-3 to Gonzalo Villanueva in the round of 16 at the Curitiba Challenger 75 .
- Alves lost 6-3 6-3 to Jose Pereira in the final qualifying round at Antofagasta .
- He partnered Luis Britto in doubles at Antofagasta.
