Context last updated 12 Oct 2026, 00:48 · Europe/Bucharest

Samson is 235 ranking places higher with the better clay record, but she has lost her last two clay matches and Teixido Garcia has kept recent defeats close.

Samson is the likelier winner, most plausibly in straight sets, yet her 1.05 match price demands far more than her clay form supports. Six selections on Teixido Garcia's side offer room: +4.5 games at 3.5, the first and second sets at 5.75 each, the match win at 9.5, over 2.5 sets at 4 and over 19.5 games at 2.5.

Context

The run matters because Teixido Garcia had won almost nothing in the weeks before Valencia, and she came through three qualifying matches, including a three-set comeback over Tessa Johanna Brockmann and a 6-4 6-0 win over Diletta Cherubini. She then took a set point against Clara Burel, a top-100 opponent, before losing the opening-set tiebreak and the second set 6-0. The counterpoint is her next tournament, where she lost 6-1 6-3 to Robin Montgomery in the opening round of WTA 1000 China qualifying, leaving the Valencia week as an isolated high rather than a run of form.
- Teixido Garcia beat Tessa Johanna Brockmann in three sets and Diletta Cherubini 6-4 6-0 to qualify for WTA 125 Valencia in September 2026.
- She held a set point in the opening set against Clara Burel before losing 7-6(3) 6-0.
- She had a good tournament at WTA 125 Trieste in the weeks before Valencia.
- She lost 6-1 6-3 to Robin Montgomery in WTA 1000 China qualifying .

Samson, the world No. 113, has gone the distance in nearly half of her completed clay matches this season.
Samson's clay sample, 11 completed matches from 14 July to 21 September 2026, averaged 23.1 games and 2.45 sets, with five matches going the distance, four of them wins and one a defeat. She also won six of those matches in straight sets, so quick finishes are part of the picture. Teixido Garcia's 10 clay matches average 21.3 games, which points to competitive scoring rather than a one-sided first round.
- Samson's clay set evidence covers 11 completed matches from 14 July to 21 September 2026, with one retirement excluded.
- Scorelines across the sample: four 2-0 wins, four 2-1 wins, two 0-2 defeats and one 1-2 defeat.
- Match averages: 23.1 total games and 2.45 sets; three of the 11 matches contained a tiebreak.
A WTA 125 sits directly below the main WTA tour, so both players are competing at a level where a deep run carries ranking points and prize money. The entry list includes higher-ranked players such as Solana Sierra and Laura Pigossi, which sets the standard of the field. The event also places the Spanish player, Teixido Garcia, in a home-country tournament for the week.
- Entry list for the WTA 125 in Mallorca published, with the event starting 12 October.
- Solana Sierra and Laura Pigossi listed among main-draw entrants.
- WTA 125 Mallorca scheduled for the week of 12 to 18 October 2026.

Samson is the higher-ranked player in this match, so her September clay results are the most recent guide to her level. She won a Ljubljana quarterfinal against Anastasiia Sobolieva 6-4 6-1 but then lost her Tolentino opener to Noemi Basiletti, a player outside the top 200. The Tolentino defeat came with Samson seeded No. 4, which makes the loss to a lower-ranked opponent more notable than the ranking gap alone, though it is only one result.
- Samson beat Anastasiia Sobolieva 6-4 6-1 in the WTA 125 Ljubljana quarterfinal in September 2026.
- Noemi Basiletti beat No. 4 seed Laura Samson in her opening match at the WTA 125 in Tolentino in September 2026.
