Context last updated 12 Oct 2026, 01:24 · Europe/Bucharest

Guerrieri, ranked No. 165, meets No.

291 Shelbayh in the Olbia first round, with both 10-5 across their last 15 hard-court matches and Shelbayh arriving off a Challenger final, a transatlantic trip and a medical timeout. Guerrieri is the likelier winner, but at 1.85 there is no edge worth taking, and the same price on Shelbayh should be left alone.

Context

The timeouts came in the closing stages of a three-set match, four days before this fixture. He completed that match and played the quarter-final the next day, so there is no confirmed injury or withdrawal; the open question is whether the problem has settled in the three days since. It matters because a best-of-three first round against an opponent with far more rest is the setting in which a physical limitation would be tested.
- Medical timeouts occurred in the third set of Shelbayh's win over Damir Dzumhur at the Villena Challenger .
- He played the quarter-final against Daniil Glinka and lost in three sets.
- No retirement or withdrawal followed the timeouts.

Shelbayh's Villena matches ran from 7 to and followed the trip from Columbus, while Guerrieri has not played since, an eleven-day break. That gap gives the Italian the fresher legs going into a first-round match. The counterpoint is that Shelbayh is 22 and had already backed up a five-match run in Columbus, so he has shown he can absorb a busy block; the workload is a live factor rather than a settled one.
- Shelbayh played three matches at the Villena Challenger from 7 to .
- He had competed at the Columbus Challenger in the United States the previous week before travelling to Spain.
- Guerrieri's most recent match was a 7-5 6-1 loss to August Holmgren in Porto .

Guerrieri had spent years outside the top 200, so qualifying for the 2026 US Open main draw and climbing to a career-best No. 164 is the clearest evidence of his current level. It matters here because he is the higher-ranked player and is competing in Italy. The limitation is that a ranking milestone is not itself a playing edge, and his most recent match was a straight-set loss to August Holmgren in Porto .
- Guerrieri won three US Open qualifying matches in late August before losing to Alex De Minaur in the main-draw first round.
- His ranking reached a career-best No. 164 in late September 2026.
- He is the higher-ranked player in this match at No. 165.

Guerrieri's 14 hard-court matches in this window average 24.8 games; he took the first set in 8 of them but the second in only 5, and 8 of his 14 matches finished 2-1 in his favour. Shelbayh's set split is flatter — 9-6 and 8-7 across 15 matches — so the pattern belongs to Guerrieri rather than to the matchup as a whole. It points to a match likely to run long rather than one settled in straight sets.
- Guerrieri's hard-court set evidence covers 14 completed matches from 4 August to 1 October 2026.
- He won 8 of 14 first sets but only 5 of 14 second sets.
- Eight of his 14 matches finished 2-1 in his favour, and his average hard-court match lasted 24.8 games.
