Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 9 Oct 2026, 06:04 · Europe/Bucharest

Tobón, ranked No. 506, reaches the Antofagasta quarterfinal off a three-hour, four-match-point win over the third seed, while fifth seed Prado Ángelo has not dropped a set.

Prado Ángelo is the likely winner, but 1.30 for the straight win asks more than his 5-5 clay sample justifies. The price worth considering is Prado Ángelo to win in three sets at 4.25.

Context

Tobón, a wildcard ranked No. 506, had no win of this size behind him, so beating the third seed is a real step up in level rather than a routine advance. He saved four match points in the second set of a match that ran more than three hours, and the quarterfinal follows the next day. He therefore arrives with the heavier recent workload against a seed ranked more than 300 places above him. The result shows he can hold his level deep in a deciding set, but it does not by itself close the ranking gap.
- Tobón saved four match points, all in the second set, against third seed Tomás Barrios Vera.
- Barrios Vera was the top-ranked Chilean in the draw at No. 132, while Tobón is ranked No. 506.
- The round-of-16 match lasted more than three hours.
- Tobón is 20 years old and entered the main draw as a wildcard.

Tobón has given away the first set in every completed clay match in this sample, which leaves him chasing against a seed who has dropped no sets in Antofagasta. The four second sets he has won show the recovery is a pattern rather than a one-off, though it costs him a set of ground each time. That slow start is the clearest risk to his chances here.
- Tobón lost the opening set in all five completed clay matches tracked from 22 June to 8 October (0-5, averaging 3.0 games to 6.0).
- He won four of five second sets on the same surface, averaging 5.4 games to 4.6.
- Four of his five completed clay matches went to a deciding set, an average of 2.8 sets per match.
Prado Ángelo is the fifth seed and this is his seventh Challenger quarterfinal of 2026, so this stage of a tournament week is familiar territory. He has won both Antofagasta matches without dropping a set, which leaves him the fresher of the two with Tobón coming off a three-hour match. A seeded position and a light scoreline say little about how he handles an opponent who has just beaten the third seed, so the edge they imply is modest.
- Prado Ángelo won his round-of-16 match 6-2 6-3 against Pedro Boscardin Dias.
- The Antofagasta quarterfinal is his seventh of the 2026 season.
- He is the fifth seed in the singles draw and has not dropped a set this week.

Tobón's Antofagasta run began with a first-round comeback against qualifier Thiago Cigarrán, and he has gone to a deciding set in both of his matches this week. Winning up to eleven consecutive games in that opening match shows the level he can reach from a set down. The cost is time on court: two three-set matches is more work than his opponent has had, and it is the clearest reason this quarterfinal may be decided late rather than quickly. This route context does not by itself change the ranking difference between the two players.
- Tobón beat qualifier Thiago Cigarrán 4-6 6-4 6-1 in the first round.
- He won up to eleven consecutive games in that comeback.
- He has needed three sets in both of his Antofagasta matches.
