Pre-match view

Context last updated 7 Oct 2026, 03:01 · Europe/Bucharest

Two first-round upsets set this second-round meeting: Dudeney took out the top seed, Aksu won at home without dropping a set.

Dudeney's recent hard-court form (9-1 in ten tracked matches) makes her the likelier winner, and her 1.73 match price carries a small edge. Over 22.5 games at 2.2 and a Dudeney 2-1 win at 4.25 also return a slim margin; the 1.5 for under 2.5 sets and 1.85 on Dudeney -1.5 do not.

Context

This is the standout result of Dudeney's run so far: she lost the opening set to the draw's No. 1 seed and then turned the match around against a player ranked 168 places above her, days after reaching the quarter-finals of a W75 hard-court event in Portugal. It matters here because it shows the British player, a U.S. college product, can hold her level across three sets against a top-100 opponent, which is a step up from the sub-250 opposition she usually faces. The limitation is that a single best-of-three upset says little about her consistency, and she now faces a different kind of opponent in a home player comfortable in these conditions.
- First-round scoreline 3-6 6-3 6-4 against top seed Antonia Ruzic (No. 83) .
- Ruzic entered as the No. 1 seed in the Samsun draw.
- Dudeney was ranked No. 251, some 168 places below her opponent.

Aksu beat a player ranked roughly 70 places above her without dropping a set, and she did it at the tournament where she is the highest-profile home player. That matters for this fixture because it points to a confident, settled opening on the Turkish hard courts, in contrast to a season in which several of her matches have gone to a deciding set. The clear caveat is that Arango was working back to match sharpness after time away, so the scoreline flatters the gap in current level rather than proving a durable upgrade in Aksu's form.
- First-round scoreline 6-3 6-2 against Emiliana Arango (No. 138) .
- Aksu was listed as the local player against Arango in the main-draw pairing.
- Arango was described as returning to competition after a break in Turkey.
ConfirmedSources checked 7 Oct 2026, 02:59 · Europe/Bucharest
Aksu's first set has usually gone against her in this window, even though she started well in Samsun with a 6-3 opening set against Arango.
Dudeney has won 7 of her 10 tracked hard-court first sets, so the opening set is where the gap between the two looks widest; Aksu's 7-7 second-set record suggests she settles later rather than early.
- Aksu has won 5 of 14 tracked hard-court first sets between 26 June and 6 October 2026.
- She lost the opening set in 9 of those 14 matches.
- Across the same 14 matches she is 7-7 in second sets, with 3 matches containing a tiebreak.
This is the second staging of a WTA 125 women's event in Samsun and the largest tournament on either player's current schedule, so a second-round win is worth meaningful ranking points and prize money for two women ranked outside the top 200. The whole draw is playing on the same outdoor hard courts at the same municipal complex, which makes the conditions a shared constant rather than an edge for either side. The venue context is what is unusual here: a WTA 125 field of this size touring through a Turkish coastal city on a coastal hard-court week.
- The tournament is the second edition staged in Samsun.
- Roughly 70 players from 31 countries are entered.
- Play is based at the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality golf and tennis facility.
