Pre-match view

Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 22:43 · Europe/Bucharest

Moro Cañas, ranked 233, is the more likely winner over No.

387 Martin, but both have won 8 of 14 clay first sets, so the opener should be close. Two prices offer something, both on Martin: 2.6 to win the first set and 2.9 to win the match. Moro Cañas's 1.36 to win and 1.44 set prices ask more than his form supports.

Context

Moro Cañas carries both the seeding and the ranking advantage into this match, at No. 233 against Martin's No. 387, and he won his Palermo opener in straight sets . His opponent there, Kalin Ivanovski, had come through the qualifying draw, so the win came against a player already several matches into the week. The seeding reflects the entry field rather than a proven edge on clay, and Martin is a former top-100 player with more experience at this level.
- Moro Cañas was the fifth seed in the Palermo main draw and was drawn against qualifier Kalin Ivanovski
- Moro Cañas won that first-round match 6-2, 6-3

This is the strongest sustained stretch of Moro Cañas's recent season and it continues onto clay: he won four matches in Zaragoza before losing the final, then won his Palermo opener. It also means a heavy recent load, with six matches across the seven days before this second-round match. The results were built at Challenger and ITF World Tennis Tour level rather than against top-200 opposition, so the run is better evidence of rhythm than of a step up in class.
- Moro Cañas has nine wins from his last eleven matches
- He reached the final of the M25 in Zaragoza, losing 6-3, 6-2 to Alexander Ritschard, his third final of the season and his first on the ITF World Tennis Tour
- He had reached the final of the Biella Challenger, losing 7-6(1), 6-4 to Carlo Alberto Caniato
ReportedSources checked 6 Oct 2026, 22:41 · Europe/Bucharest
Martin advanced without completing the match: he lost the second set 2-6 and was leading 4-2 in the third when Wessels retired injured. That makes the win a weak signal about Martin's current level, and his most recent completed match was a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Samuele Pieri in late September. The free day between his opener and this second-round match is the main practical benefit of how the first round ended.
- Martin led 6-3, 2-6, 4-2 when Louis Wessels retired injured in Palermo
- Wessels had taken the second set 6-2 before retiring

Moro Cañas arrives as the fifth seed and world No. 233, after a 6-2, 6-3 first-round win over qualifier Kalin Ivanovski.
Second sets have been his most reliable part of a clay match: he wins them 10 times in 14 and has not been overwhelmed in the ones he drops, averaging 4.6 games lost. His second sets average 10.1 games and four of his 14 clay matches included a tiebreak, so these sets tend to go deep. It is a real edge over a player who has won 8 of 14 second sets, but an edge of degree rather than a mismatch.
- Moro Cañas has a 10-4 second-set record across 14 clay matches tracked from September 3 to October 6, 2026
- He averages 5.5 second-set games won and 4.6 lost in that window
- His second sets average 10.1 total games, and four of his 14 clay matches included a tiebreak
