Context last updated 6 Oct 2026, 03:36 · Europe/Bucharest

A seventh seed meets a qualifier on clay: Lautaro Midon (No. 206) should beat Jose Pereira (No. 778), and he won their only previous meeting.

Pereira, though, has started matches well all season, and the prices worth considering all sit on him — the first set at 4.25, the match at 5.75, a 2-1 Pereira win at 10 and the second set at 4.25. Midon's own 1.1 and 1.18 ask more than the record justifies.

Context

Pereira reached the main draw through qualifying, and the stored match record shows qualifying wins on 4 and before this 6 October fixture. That gives him consecutive match days entering a meeting with a seeded opponent. Both qualifying wins were in straight sets, which limits the evidence for an extended match burden.
- Pereira advanced from the qualifying draw into the singles main draw.

Their April match at Campinas went the distance, with Midón deciding the final set 6-4. It provides a direct recent reference point between these opponents in a Challenger setting. That meeting was at a different event six months earlier, so it does not establish current fitness or Antofagasta-specific conditions.
- Midón won the Campinas Challenger first-round meeting 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 .

Pereira is a qualifier ranked No. 778 who has played almost all of his recent tennis on South American clay.
That 9-4 first-set record gives him a live route to the opening set against a higher-ranked opponent, and his three-set habit — six of nine clay wins this season — shows he often needs a decider to close. The second set is the counterweight: he has won only 5 of 13 there, while Midon has taken 8 of 11 on the same surface, so the middle of the match is where his position looks weakest.
- Pereira's clay set evidence covers 13 completed matches from 20 May to 5 October 2026, with two retirements excluded.
- First sets: 9 wins, 4 losses, averaging 5.38 games won and 4.69 lost.
- Second sets: 5 wins, 8 losses, averaging 4.54 games won and 5.00 lost.
- Scorelines in the window: three 2-0 wins, six 2-1 wins, two 0-2 losses and two 1-2 losses.
Midon is the No. 206 player and seventh seed in the Antofagasta draw.
That straight-set habit is why a shorter match is the more likely shape of this first round, and it fits his 8-3 second-set record on the surface. The counterpoint sits with Pereira, whose own three-set pattern — six of nine clay wins this season — means a Midon win is not guaranteed to be quick, even if the favourite takes control early.
- Midon's clay set evidence covers 11 completed matches from 1 July to 2 October 2026, with one retirement excluded.
- Scorelines in that window: six 2-0 wins, one 2-1 win, two 0-2 losses and two 1-2 losses.
- His clay matches average 22.7 total games and 2.27 sets.
- No serve, return or point-level aggregate metrics are available for these matches.
