Context last updated 4 Oct 2026, 19:15 · Europe/Bucharest

A month after Zheng beat Lu 6-3 6-4 on hard, the pair meet again in Suzhou qualifying.

Lu is ranked 116 places higher and has taken the first set in 9 of her 13 hard-court matches, but Zheng has won 11 of 14 second sets and Lu's serve gives away points. Zheng is the narrow pick, and her 2.25 price is the one worth taking; Lu at 1.65 is not.

Context

Zheng won the pair's most recent meeting 6-3 6-4 on hard court on September 6, 2026, and this Suzhou qualifying match is a quick rematch between two players grouped closely in the rankings. With little separation between their profiles, that recent straight-sets result is the clearest single reference point for the matchup. It is one match only, so it points to a matchup pattern rather than proof of a durable edge.
- Zheng beat Lu 6-3 6-4 on a hard court on September 6, 2026, in the most recent recorded meeting between the two.

Zheng is the lower-ranked player at No. 478, so the back half of matches is where her record holds most of its value.
If this match reaches a deciding set, Zheng's recent record says she is the likelier of the two to take it, and her latest completed match on 4 October followed that shape: a 4-6 first set, then 6-3 6-4. The same window shows her first sets level at 4.64 games each way, which is why Lu's fast starts are the counterweight.
- Hard-court set record, 25 June to 4 October 2026: 14 completed matches, first sets 7-7 (4.64 games won, 4.64 lost) and second sets 11-3 (5.71 won, 4.29 lost).
- One retired match from that window is excluded from the set counts.
- Total games average 23.57 per match and 2.43 sets per match; 5 of the 14 matches included a tiebreak.
Lu is the higher-ranked player at No. 362, and her serve numbers describe where the pressure sits once a rally starts on her second delivery.
In a match that shapes as close, 4.4 double faults per match hands over free points, and 54.6% of the points played on her second serve have gone to opponents. The first serve is not the issue at 67.7% of points won, so the return should be hunting the second ball.
- Last 15 tracked matches through 4 October 2026: 66 double faults at 4.4 per match, with 45.4% of second-serve points won (173 of 381).
- First-serve points won 67.7% (422 of 623) with 62.1% of first serves in play (623 of 1,004).
- Total points won 51.8% (1,062 of 2,049).
Zheng lost the opening set 4-6 before taking the next two 6-3 6-4 to survive her Suzhou qualifying opener . The win moves her deeper into the qualifying draw and shows she can reset after a slow start. It was still a qualifying-round match decided over three sets, so on its own it is a modest read on her level entering this fixture.
- Zheng beat Yihan Qu 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the Suzhou Open 2026 women's singles qualifying first round .
