Pre-match view

Context last updated 4 Oct 2026, 19:23 · Europe/Bucharest

A qualifying opener with a gap of more than 600 ranking places, yet Xiao has won nine of his last 14 second sets on hard courts and Cina lost to No.

331 Yanki Erel on 2 October. Cina should still win, but 1.03 to do it pays nothing. The worthwhile prices are Xiao at 12 to win the match, Xiao at 6 to take either of the first two sets, a deciding set at 4 and Over 20.5 games at 2.5.

Context

Cina's Chengdu week in late September produced a straight-sets win over a top-80 opponent, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, before Alexandre Muller ended his run in the round of 16. It is his strongest recent result at tour level and means he comes into Shanghai qualifying with tour-level match practice behind him rather than a gap since his last event. That form is directly relevant against an opponent ranked more than 600 places below him, though it was earned in a different city and on a different court, so it sets the baseline rather than settling a best-of-three qualifier.
- Cina beat Camilo Ugo Carabelli at the Chengdu Open
- Cina lost to Alexandre Muller in the Chengdu Open round of 16

Xiao's first sets in that 14-match sample are 6-8 with 4.64 games won and 5.00 lost; his second sets are 9-5 with 5.43 won and 4.50 lost. It is the largest split in his hard-court record and explains why so many of his matches reach a deciding set. The aggregate excludes one retirement, so the nine second-set wins come from completed matches only.
- Xiao's 14 completed hard-court matches from 25 March to 22 September 2026 include second sets won 9, lost 5.
- His first sets in the same 14-match sample were won 6, lost 8, with 4.64 games won and 5.00 games lost on average.
- One retirement was excluded from the 14-match aggregate.
Mochizuki was ranked No. 120, almost 700 places above Xiao, and Xiao still took a set and forced a decider, winning 16 games to 18. It is the closest he has come to a higher-ranked opponent in his recent sample and shows his losing margins are often small. This is one match, and it remains a loss.
- 22 September 2026: Xiao lost 5-7 6-4 5-7 to Shintaro Mochizuki, ranked No. 120, on hard court.
- Xiao won 16 games in that match to Mochizuki's 18.
Erel was ranked No. 331 and Cina lost in straight sets three days before the Shanghai opener, winning 11 games to 14. It sits alongside Cina's level 7-7 record in his last 14 completed matches, with several of his defeats coming against players well below his own ranking. One match does not overturn a gap of more than 600 ranking places, but it is the freshest evidence on him.
- 2 October 2026: Cina lost 5-7 6-7 to Yanki Erel, ranked No. 331, on hard court.
- Cina won 11 games in that match to Erel's 14.
