Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 04:38 · Europe/Bucharest

Two big servers open the Beijing first round, and Mensik, who won both 2025 meetings in straight sets, is the likelier winner.

Bublik's serve and Mensik's habit of three-set matches keep it close. Mensik at 1.5 is not worth backing; over 2.5 sets at 2.3, Mensik 2-1 at 4.0, Bublik with a 3.5-game start at 1.5 and Bublik to win the second set at 2.3 all come with an edge.

Context

Three days before Beijing, Bublik played singles and doubles at The O2 and finished the week without a win, losing to Jodar in straight sets and dropping both doubles rubbers. He was not selected for the Sunday session, and Team World's 5-13 defeat ended his event early. Beijing is his first tournament since, so his only recent competitive evidence is a winless week, although the Laver Cup's team format and match-tiebreak doubles limit how far those results carry into a best-of-three singles match.
- Bublik lost to Rafael Jodar 6-2, 6-3 in the opening singles at The O2 .
- Bublik and Taylor Fritz lost their doubles to Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik 6-4, 6-4.
- Bublik and Brandon Nakashima lost their doubles to Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-6(7).
- Team World lost the 2026 Laver Cup 5-13, with Bublik unused on the final day.
ConfirmedSources checked 29 Sep 2026, 04:35 · Europe/Bucharest
Mensik left London with the team title, having won both of his doubles matches and lost his singles to Nakashima in a match tiebreak. One of those doubles wins came with Carlos Alcaraz against Bublik and Taylor Fritz, so the two men already shared a court in the week before this meeting. Mensik arrives off a trophy rather than a defeat, but doubles results do not transfer cleanly to singles and his own singles week ended in a loss, so the freshest relevant fact is the recent head-to-head exposure rather than a proven edge.
- Team Europe beat Team World 13-5 at The O2 in London to reclaim the 2026 Laver Cup.
- Mensik and Flavio Cobolli beat Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz 7-5, 6-3 in doubles.
- Mensik and Carlos Alcaraz beat Taylor Fritz and Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4 in doubles .
- Mensik lost his singles match to Brandon Nakashima 6-1, 3-6, 10-7.

Mensik has been the cleaner of the two in this matchup, winning the past two meetings in straight sets.
Two straight-set wins in 2025 make Mensik the more settled side here, and Bublik has not taken a set off him in either of those meetings. The counterweight is the 2024 Wimbledon match, where Bublik lost the first two sets and then won the last three 6-4 6-4 6-2, showing he can turn a long match his way once his serve holds.
- Mensik beat Bublik 6-4 6-4 on 4 February 2025.
- Mensik beat Bublik 6-3 6-2 on 29 April 2025.
- Bublik won their third meeting at Wimbledon on 1 July 2024, 4-6 6-7(2) 6-4 6-4 6-2.
Mensik has been playing long, three-set matches on hard courts through the late-summer stretch.
Six of those 11 matches went to a deciding set, including four 2-1 wins and two 1-2 defeats, so a straight-sets finish has not been his usual outcome. Only three of the 11 finished 2-0, and his first sets in the same sample averaged 10.4 games, which points to tight openings rather than quick ones.
- Mensik's 11 hard-court best-of-three matches from 28 July to 19 September 2026 averaged 25.6 games.
- Six of those 11 matches went to a deciding set: four 2-1 wins and two 1-2 losses.
- Only three of the 11 matches finished 2-0, and his first sets averaged 10.4 games.
