Quick Take

Pre-match view

Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 04:30 · Europe/Bucharest

De Minaur is the better hard-court player and should win, but 1.20 to win the match, 1.29 for the first set and 1.60 for a straight-sets win ask for more than his record supports.

The worthwhile prices are on Navone's side: Navone +3.5 games at 2.60, over 22.5 games at 2.30, Navone to win the second set at 3.50, and Navone to win the match at 4.50.

Context

Navone beat Djokovic, the fourth seed, in five sets in the first round of the US Open, the most significant result of his career and the end of a run of 78 consecutive first-round wins at Grand Slams. For this fixture it shows he can hurt a far higher-ranked opponent on a hard court, not only on clay. The counterweight is that Etcheverry stopped him in straight sets in the third round and that Navone has not played a singles match since 4 September, so that level has gone untested for three weeks.
- Navone was ranked around No. 48-49 and Djokovic was the No. 4 seed
- The first-round match lasted 4 hours 36 minutes
- It was Djokovic's first opening-round Grand Slam defeat since 2006
- Etcheverry won the third-round meeting 6-4 6-4 6-3

The win over Zverev, the world No. 2, on 26 September is the most recent competitive tennis De Minaur played before Beijing, and it came in a deciding-set tiebreak from a set down. It shows he arrives with recent match sharpness against elite opposition, in contrast to an opponent who has not played singles in three weeks. The limitation is that Laver Cup singles carry no ranking points and sit outside the regular tour format, so the result is a signal of level rather than a direct read on his form in a ranking event.
- Zverev is the current world No. 2
- The singles win came on 26 September in London
- De Minaur also played the doubles, losing with Taylor Fritz
ConfirmedSources checked 29 Sep 2026, 04:28 · Europe/Bucharest
De Minaur arrives in Beijing off three days of competitive tennis in London, including a three-set singles win over Zverev on 26 September and a doubles rubber, followed by long-haul travel to China. Navone spent the same period at a Davis Cup tie in Neuquen where he did not play a match, leaving his last singles outing on 4 September. The asymmetry is real and cuts both ways: De Minaur carries recent match rhythm and travel load, while Navone is fresher but has not competed in singles for three weeks, which is the relevant question for how quickly he finds his level in a first-round match.
- De Minaur played singles on 26 September and a doubles rubber in London
- Navone's last competitive singles was the US Open third round on 4 September
- Navone was in Argentina's Davis Cup squad in Neuquen but did not play
ConfirmedSources checked 29 Sep 2026, 04:28 · Europe/Bucharest
De Minaur's most recent Grand Slam ended in the second round, where he was beaten in straight sets despite being the No. 6 seed, and the opponent went on to a quarter-final. It is a check on his hard-court level from the North American swing over the weeks immediately before this trip to Asia. It is a lower-impact item for this fixture because he has since played and won at the Laver Cup, and the defeat has not been linked to any current physical problem.
- De Minaur was seeded No. 6 at the 2026 US Open
- Van de Zandschulp won in straight sets in the second round
- Van de Zandschulp then reached the US Open quarter-finals
