Pre-match view

Context last updated 29 Sep 2026, 19:15 · Europe/Bucharest

Ferro is 313 places higher, but the hard-court form runs the other way: she is 1-2 on the surface this season and Wei is 9-5.

Ferro still looks a narrow favourite, though the 1.35 on her to win asks for far more than that record supports. The worthwhile prices sit with Wei and the longer matches: +3.5 games at 2.20, the first set at 2.75, the match at 3.20, over 22.5 games at 2.40 and over 2.5 sets at 2.60.

Context

At 5-2 down in the second set of her opener, Ferro needed treatment to her lower back and hip area, a problem that has not featured in any public update since. She went on to win that match 6-4 2-6 6-1, which argues against a serious restriction but does not establish that the issue has cleared. Because no current statement confirms whether it is being managed through the week, the effect on her serving and lateral movement in this round remains open.
- A medical timeout was taken at 5-2 down in the second set of her first-round match, with treatment to the lower back and hip area.
- She completed that match with a 6-4 2-6 6-1 win.

The win moved Ferro to the edge of the Top 100 on live points, and a second win at Jingshan would settle the return instead of leaving it exposed to results elsewhere in the tournament week. Reaching that band restores the entry level needed for Grand Slam main draws and top-tier WTA acceptance, which is why this round is being framed around an Australian Open place. The position is calculated in live points, so it stays provisional until the week closes and can shift without another match being played.
- Her first-round win lifted her provisionally back inside the Top 100.
- A win in the next round would allow her to secure that return.
ReportedSources checked 29 Sep 2026, 19:12 · Europe/Bucharest
Two 125-level titles in one season underpin a climb of more than 250 places, so Ferro arrives well above the level that a ranking of No. 108 alone conveys. The qualification is surface: the Montreux and Oeiras runs, and nearly all of her recent match volume, came on clay, while this event is being played on hard courts. Her 2026 rise has also followed a return from surgery, making the current level a rebuilt one rather than a continuation of her previous career peak.
- Ferro won the Montreux title by beating Noma Noha Akugue 6-1 6-2.
- It was her second WTA 125 title of the season after Oeiras and the fourth WTA-level title of her career.
- She has climbed from approximately No. 366 at the start of 2026 into the top 110.

Ferro's ranking and title record say one thing; her hard-court sample this season says another.
Three matches is a thin basis for a firm conclusion, but it is the only hard-court evidence on Ferro this season and it differs sharply from her 12-3 record over her last 15 matches, with recent clay results behind much of that run. She has not won a hard-court match in straight sets in the sample and has lost all three second sets. A better serving day would change the picture quickly.
- Across three completed hard-court matches from 24 August to 28 September 2026, Ferro won 25 games and lost 35.
- She took 2 of 7 sets in that sample: 1-2 in first sets and 0-3 in second sets.
- Her scorelines were one 2-1 win and two 0-2 defeats, so no straight-sets win.
- No retirements were excluded across the three matches.
