Context last updated 28 Sep 2026, 15:40 · Europe/Bucharest

A place in the Jingshan main draw is on the line between a left-handed No. 428 and a 35-year-old with 229 career Challenger wins.

Jasika has the better recent hard-court record and is the likelier winner, but the 1.6 match price and the 1.6 first-set price ask more than that record supports. The one quoted price worth backing is Jasika to win 2-0 at 2.3.

Context

Jasika, a 29-year-old left-hander ranked No. 428, has played almost all of his recent hard-court tennis in two-set matches.
The pattern matters in a best-of-three qualifying final: when Jasika wins, he has almost always won in straight sets, with one 2-1 win set against eight 2-0 wins. It also cuts the other way, because all four of his defeats in the same sample came in straight sets. Thirteen matches is a small sample, and one retired match was excluded from it.
- Home set evidence: 13 completed hard-court matches, 16 Aug-28 Sept 2026; scorelines 2-0: 8, 2-1: 1, 0-2: 4; 1 retirement excluded.
- Same sample: 19.4 total games per match, 2.08 sets per match, 3 matches containing a tiebreak.
Moriya is a 35-year-old right-hander ranked No. 500 who has kept matches close even when he has not won them.
This is the clearest obstacle to a quick finish: Moriya was extended to a third set in 5 of 15 completed hard-court matches, and he also won a three-setter against Dominik Palan on 7 September. Against that, he lost both of his September deciders, so the extra sets have not turned into wins against similar-ranked opponents. Fifteen matches is a modest sample and the record contains no retirements.
- Away set evidence: 15 completed hard-court matches, 12 July-28 Sept 2026; 5 went to a deciding set (3 x 1-2, 2 x 2-1); 0 retirements excluded.
- Same sample: set 1 record 7-8 with 1 tiebreak, set 2 record 8-7 with 3 tiebreaks, 21.9 total games per match.
This is a Challenger 100, but its entry list and qualifying draw included players whose ranking would normally place them straight into a main draw at this level, which makes the week harder than the category implies. For two players ranked outside the top 400, that means each round is worth more than a routine Challenger match and the draw offers no soft passage to the second week. The limitation is that field strength is drawn from the entry list and published draw rather than from completed results, so it changes the difficulty of the week but not the specific matchup between a left-hander and a right-hander in this round.
- The Jingshan Challenger 100 main-draw singles draw was published and qualifying play began the same weekend
- The updated Jingshan Challenger 100 entry list of included players ranked well above the event's category
- Terence Atmane entered the Jingshan qualifying draw rather than the main draw, described as a schedule adaptation
- Moïse Kouamé, 17, was entered to play the Jingshan Challenger 100 in the week after the Chengdu ATP 250
ReportedSources checked 28 Sep 2026, 15:38 · Europe/Bucharest
The remarks were published in the second week of September 2026, weeks before this second-round match, and they describe a career interruption rather than any current physical or availability problem. They explain why a player with a career-high ranking of No. 155 is competing at Challenger level at 29 and treat his current position outside the top 400 as the residue of a long absence. The counterpoint is that he has since played a heavy Chinese hard-court schedule, including qualifying runs in Zhangjiagang and Shanghai this month, so there is no signal that he is short of matches or restricted. The comments are his own account of a past sanction and carry no confirmed bearing on this fixture.
- Jasika said he lost almost four years of his career because of the same substance at the centre of the Kyrgios case
- His comments were summarised in French as 'J'aurais aimé la même aide', referring to the support he did not receive
