Context last updated 27 Sep 2026, 23:50 · Europe/Bucharest

Ranking points one way and recent form the other: Rocha, No. 116, is the more likely winner, but he is 5-10 in his last 15 matches and 3-4 on hard in this window, while Cretu, No. 272, arrives with a first Challenger title from August.

The 1.22 on Rocha asks him to win about four times in five and does not stand up. Cretu at 3.8 is the one price here that carries an edge.

Context

Cretu's first ATP Challenger title came in Augsburg at the end of August 2026, where he beat Facundo Mena 6-2 6-0 in the final and did not lose a set all week. It is his first title at this level and the result that moved him 59 places up the ATP list, making it the reference point for the form he brings to Porto. The counterweight is the opposition he faced: apart from Mena, every player he beat that week was ranked outside the top 250, and Rocha is ranked about 150 places higher than Cretu, so the Augsburg week does not by itself show he can beat a top-120 opponent.
- Won the Schwaben Open in Augsburg in August 2026 for a first career ATP Challenger title
- Beat Facundo Mena 6-2 6-0 in the final without dropping a set all week
- Climbed 59 ranking places into the top 250 after the title

Rocha's seven hard-court matches in this window averaged more than 24 games, so length has been the pattern rather than the exception.
Long sets on hard give this first round a real chance of stretching past a routine straight-sets finish. Rocha has won his hard-court matches 2-0 when he has won them, but he also lost three of seven in a deciding set, so a 24-game shape is the realistic range. Cretu's one hard-court match in the window was short and one-sided, which is the counterweight.
- Seven hard-court matches between 1 and 26 August 2026 averaged 24.6 games and 2.43 sets
- Scorelines in that sample: three 2-0 wins, three 1-2 losses and one 0-2 loss
- Three of the seven matches contained a tiebreak
Cretu's hard-court sample here is a single match, and it went against him.
That match is the whole hard-court evidence base for Cretu in this window, and it points the same way as the ranking gap: a straight-sets loss to a player outside the top 200. It came nine days after his last clay win, so it may not reflect his level on the surface this week, but nothing else in the record contradicts it.
- 2-6 4-6 loss to Harold Mayot (No. 237) on 7 September 2026
- Six games won to twelve across the two sets
- The only hard-court match for Cretu in this window
Cretu was on national-team duty in mid-September 2026, winning the first point of Romania's Davis Cup tie against Indonesia. It matters as a scheduling anchor: it is his most recent competitive appearance, ten days before this match, so he comes into Porto off match play rather than a layoff, unlike a player arriving straight from a training block. The limitation is format and level: a Davis Cup rubber is played in a team setting, and the identity and ranking of the opponent he beat there is not established here, so the result is continuity rather than evidence about his level against a top-120 player.
- Won the first point of Romania's Davis Cup tie against Indonesia in September 2026
- The tie came roughly ten days before this match in Porto
