Pre-match view

Context last updated 28 Sep 2026, 19:42 · Europe/Bucharest

Two players outside the top 60 meet in Beijing for a main-draw place, Mannarino on a tight turnaround from Chengdu and Carreno-Busta back from a month out.

Carreno-Busta holds a narrow edge and has won both previous meetings, but his 1.55 win price asks for more than that edge is worth. Four prices look reasonable: the match ending in straight sets at 1.55, Mannarino 2-0 at 4, Mannarino to win at 2.4 and Mannarino to take the first set at 2.3.

Context

Mannarino played a three-set quarter-final in Chengdu and then a three-set qualifying opener in Beijing a day later, so he brings far more recent court time and travel than an opponent who won his first match here in straight sets. The load falls on a 38-year-old whose flat, low-margin game depends on timing and movement, the qualities a compressed turnaround tests first. The counterweight is that the same Chengdu week contained his best hard-court wins of the stretch, so this reads as a recovery risk rather than evidence of a decline.
- Mannarino beat Juncheng Shang and Alejandro Tabilo in Chengdu before a three-set quarter-final defeat to Denis Shapovalov .
- He came through his Beijing qualifying opener 7-6(6) 3-6 7-6(5) against Miomir Kecmanovic .
- The two events are about 1,500 km apart and he returned to court the following day.

Mannarino's set-level record is the most settled part of his recent hard-court form.
He won six of those 11 first sets and lost five, and four of the opening sets went to a tiebreak, so the straight-set results have often been built on tight sets rather than one-sided ones. The counterweight is that his two most recent matches, against Denis Shapovalov and Miomir Kecmanovic, both went to a third set.
- 11 hard-court best-of-three matches, 28 July to 28 September 2026.
- Scorelines: four 2-0 wins, five 0-2 losses, one 2-1 win, one 1-2 loss.
- First sets: 6-5 with four tiebreaks; average total games 22.7.
The men's main draw in Beijing does not open until 30 September, so this is a qualifying match with a main-draw place as the prize rather than a meeting between two players already safely in the field. The event is one of the strongest of the hard-court swing, with seven of the top 10 and a returning six-time champion in Novak Djokovic, which is why two players ranked outside the top 60 are in qualifying at all. That frames the stakes of the fixture and the level both are trying to reach, without changing how the two match up.
- Mannarino and Carreno-Busta each won their opening match in the China Open qualifying draw .
- The China Open men's entry list announced features seven of the world's top 10, with Novak Djokovic returning to Beijing after 11 years.
- Qualifying is played on 28-29 September, with main-draw first-round matches from 30 September at the National Tennis Center.

Carreno-Busta's first match in about four weeks came in the Beijing qualifying draw, so match sharpness rather than physical workload is the open question around him. He answered the first test with a straight-sets win, taking a shorter route through the round than Mannarino did. A 7-5 6-3 win over an opponent ranked outside the top 250 does not by itself establish that the timing will hold against a left-hander of Mannarino's standard.
- Carreno-Busta's previous match before Beijing was at the US Open in late August, a gap of about four weeks.
- He won his opening qualifying match 7-5 6-3 against Yi Zhou .
